²³ for as I was passing through and considering the objects of your worship, I even found an altar with this inscription:

TO THE UNKNOWN GOD.

Therefore, the One whom you worship without knowing, Him I proclaim to you:

²² You worship ^(A)what you do not know; we know what we worship, for ^(B)salvation is of the Jews.

Fears for the Church

⁸ But then, indeed, ^(A)when you did not know God, ^(B)you served those which by nature are not gods. ⁹ But now ^(C)after you have known God, or rather are known by God, ^(D)how is it that you turn again to ^(E)the weak and beggarly elements, to which you desire again to be in bondage?

³ And ^(A)this is eternal life, that they may know You, ^(B)the only true God, and Jesus Christ ^(C)whom You have sent.

²⁵ O righteous Father! ^(A)The world has not known You, but ^(B)I have known You; and ^(C)these have known that You sent Me.

²¹ For since, in the ^(A)wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.

³⁰ Truly, ^(A)these times of ignorance God overlooked, but ^(B)now commands all men everywhere to repent,

²⁰ And we know that the ^(A)Son of God has come and ^(B)has given us an understanding, ^(C)that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. ^(D)This is the true God ^(E)and eternal life.

⁴ who opposes and ^(A)exalts himself ^(B)above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits ^[a]as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.
