Acts 17:14-34
Legacy Standard Bible
14 Then immediately (A)the brothers sent Paul out to go as far as the sea; and (B)Silas and (C)Timothy remained there. 15 Now (D)those who escorted Paul brought him as far as (E)Athens; and after receiving a command for (F)Silas and Timothy to (G)come to him as soon as possible, they left.
In Athens
16 Now while Paul was waiting for them at (H)Athens, his spirit was being provoked within him as he was observing the city full of idols. 17 So he was reasoning (I)in the synagogue with the Jews and (J)the God-fearing Gentiles, and in the marketplace every day with those who happened to be present. 18 And also some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers were [a]conversing with him. Some were saying, “What would (K)this [b]idle babbler wish to say?” Others, “He seems to be a proclaimer of strange deities,”—because he was proclaiming the good news of (L)Jesus and the resurrection. 19 And they (M)took him and brought him [c]to the [d](N)Areopagus, saying, “May we know what (O)this new teaching is [e]which you are speaking? 20 For you are bringing some strange things to our ears. So we want to know what these things mean.” 21 (Now all the Athenians and the strangers (P)visiting there used to spend their time in nothing other than telling or hearing something newer.)
22 So Paul stood in the midst of the [f]Areopagus and said, “Men of (Q)Athens, I observe that you are very (R)religious in all respects. 23 For while I was passing through and examining the (S)objects of your worship, I also found an altar with this inscription, ‘TO AN UNKNOWN GOD.’ Therefore what (T)you worship in ignorance, this I proclaim to you. 24 (U)The God who made the world and all things in it, since He is (V)Lord of heaven and earth, does not (W)dwell in temples made with hands; 25 nor is He served by human hands, (X)as though He needed anything, since He Himself gives to all people life and breath and all things; 26 and (Y)He made from one man every nation of mankind to inhabit all the face of the earth, having (Z)determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their habitation, 27 that they would seek God, if perhaps they might grope for Him and find Him, (AA)though He is not far from each one of us; 28 for (AB)in Him we live and move and [g]exist, as even some of your own poets have said, ‘For we also are His offspring.’ 29 Being then the offspring of God, we (AC)ought not to suppose that the Divine Nature is like gold or silver or stone, an image formed by the craft and thought of man. 30 Therefore having (AD)overlooked (AE)the times of ignorance, God is (AF)now commanding men that everyone everywhere should repent, 31 because He has fixed (AG)a day in which (AH)He will judge [h](AI)the world in righteousness [i]through a Man whom He (AJ)determined, having furnished proof to all [j]by (AK)raising Him from the dead.”
32 Now when they heard about (AL)the resurrection of the dead, some began to sneer, but others said, “We shall hear you [k]again concerning this.” 33 In this way, Paul went out of their midst. 34 But some men joined him and believed, among whom also were Dionysius the (AM)Areopagite and a woman named Damaris and others with them.

Philemon’s Love and Faith
1 (A)Paul, (B)a prisoner of (C)Christ Jesus, and (D)Timothy [a]our brother,
To Philemon our beloved brother and (E)fellow worker, 2 and to Apphia [b](F)our sister, and to (G)Archippus our (H)fellow soldier, and to (I)the church in your house: 3 (J)Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
4 (K)I thank my God, always making mention of you in my prayers, 5 because I (L)hear of your love and of the faith which you have toward the Lord Jesus and toward all the [c]saints; 6 and I pray that the fellowship of your faith may become effective [d]through the (M)full knowledge of every good thing which is in you [e]for the sake of Christ. 7 For I have come to have much (N)joy and comfort in your love, because the [f]hearts of the [g]saints have been (O)refreshed through you, brother.
8 Therefore, (P)though I have much boldness in Christ to command you to do what is (Q)proper, 9 yet for love’s sake I rather (R)plead with you—since I am such a person as Paul, [h]the (S)aged, and now also (T)a prisoner of (U)Christ Jesus—
Plea for Onesimus
10 I (V)plead with you for my (W)child [i](X)Onesimus, of whom I became a [j]father in my chains, 11 who formerly was useless to you, but now is useful both to you and to me. 12 I have sent him back to you in person, that is, my very heart, 13 whom I intended to keep with me, so that on your behalf he might minister to me in my (Y)chains for the gospel, 14 but without your consent I did not want to do anything, so that your goodness would (Z)not be, in effect, by compulsion but voluntarily. 15 For perhaps (AA)he was for this reason separated from you for a while, that you would have him back forever, 16 (AB)no longer as a slave, but more than a slave, (AC)a beloved brother, especially to me, but how much more to you, both (AD)in the flesh and in the Lord.
17 If then you regard me a (AE)partner, accept him as you would accept me. 18 But if he has wronged you in any way or owes you anything, charge that to my account. 19 (AF)I, Paul, am writing this with my own hand, I will repay it ((AG)not to [k]mention to you that you owe to me even your own self as well). 20 Yes, brother, let me benefit from you in the Lord. (AH)Refresh my heart in Christ!
21 (AI)Having confidence in your obedience, I write to you, since I know that you will do even more than what I say.
22 And at the same time also prepare me a (AJ)lodging, for (AK)I hope that through (AL)your prayers (AM)I will be graciously given to you.
23 (AN)Epaphras, my (AO)fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus, greets you, 24 as do (AP)Mark, (AQ)Aristarchus, (AR)Demas, (AS)Luke, my (AT)fellow workers.
25 (AU)The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be (AV)with your spirit.[l]
