²⁴ Having received this order, he put them into the inner ^(A)prison and fastened their feet in ^(B)the stocks.

²⁶ ‘The Lord has made you priest instead of Jehoiada the priest, to have ^(A)charge in the house of the Lord ^(B)over every madman who prophesies, to put him in ^(C)the stocks and neck irons.

²⁶ then you shall say to them, ^(A)‘I made a humble plea to the king that he would not send me back to the house of Jonathan to die there.’”

¹⁵ And the officials were enraged at Jeremiah, and they beat him ^(A)and imprisoned him in the house of Jonathan the secretary, for it had been made a prison.

^16 (B)When Jeremiah had come to the dungeon cells and remained there many days,

² Then ^(A)Pashhur beat Jeremiah the prophet, and put him ^(B)in the stocks that were in the upper ^(C)Benjamin Gate of the house of the Lord. ³ The next day, when ^(D)Pashhur released Jeremiah from the stocks, Jeremiah said to him, “The Lord does not call your name ^(E)Pashhur, but Terror on Every Side.
