Paul and Barnabas Return to Antioch in Syria

²⁴Then they passed through Pisidia and came to Pamphylia. ²⁵And when they had spoken the word in Perga, they went down to Attalia, ²⁶and from there they sailed to Antioch, ^(A)where they had been ^(B)commended to the grace of God for the work that they had fulfilled. ²⁷And when they arrived and gathered the church together, ^(C)they declared all that God had done with them, and ^(D)how he had ^(E)opened ^(F)a door of faith to the Gentiles. ²⁸And they remained no little time with the disciples.

The Jerusalem Council

15 ^(G)But some men came down from Judea and were teaching ^(H)the brothers, “Unless you are ^(I)circumcised ^(J)according to the custom of Moses, you cannot be saved.” ²And after Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and ^(K)debate with them, Paul and Barnabas and ^(L)some of the others were appointed to go up to Jerusalem to ^(M)the apostles and the elders about this question. ³So, ^(N)being sent on their way by the church, they passed through both Phoenicia and Samaria, ^(O)describing in detail the conversion of the Gentiles, and ^(P)brought great joy to all ^(Q)the brothers.^[a] ⁴^(R)When they came to Jerusalem, they were welcomed by the church and ^(S)the apostles and the elders, and ^(T)they declared all that God had done with them. ⁵But some believers who belonged to ^(U)the party of the Pharisees rose up and said, ^(V)“It is necessary ^(W)to circumcise them and to order them to keep the law of Moses.”

⁶^(X)The ^(Y)apostles and the elders were gathered together to consider this matter. ⁷And after there had been much ^(Z)debate, Peter stood up and said to them, “Brothers, you know that in the early days God made a choice among you, ^(AA)that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear ^(AB)the word of ^(AC)the gospel and believe. ⁸And God, ^(AD)who knows the heart, ^(AE)bore witness to them, ^(AF)by giving them the Holy Spirit just as he did to us, ⁹and ^(AG)he made no distinction between us and them, ^(AH)having cleansed their hearts ^(AI)by faith. ¹⁰Now, therefore, why ^(AJ)are you putting God to the test ^(AK)by placing a yoke on the neck of the disciples ^(AL)that neither our fathers nor we have been able to bear? ¹¹But we ^(AM)believe that we will be ^(AN)saved through ^(AO)the grace of the Lord Jesus, ^(AP)just as they will.”
