²⁰ But when the disciples surrounded him, he got up and went into the city. The next day he went on with Barnabas to Derbe.^(A)

⁹ as unknown and yet are well known, as dying and look—we are alive, as punished and yet not killed,^(A)

⁹ Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death so that we would rely not on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead. ¹⁰ He who rescued us from so deadly a peril will continue to rescue us;^[a] on him we have set our hope that he will rescue us again,^(A)

Paul Goes to Macedonia and Greece

20 After the uproar had ceased, Paul sent for the disciples, and after encouraging them and saying farewell, he left for Macedonia.^(A)

⁴⁰ After leaving the prison they went to Lydia’s home, and when they had seen and encouraged the brothers and sisters there, they departed.^(A)

⁶ the apostles^[a] learned of it and fled to Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and to the surrounding region,^(A)

⁷ When they have finished their testimony, the beast that comes up from the bottomless pit will wage war on them and conquer them and kill them,^{(A) 8} and their dead bodies will lie in the street of the great city that is prophetically^[a] called Sodom and Egypt, where also their Lord was crucified.^{(B) 9} For three and a half days members of the peoples and tribes and languages and nations will gaze at their dead bodies and refuse to let them be placed in a tomb, ¹⁰ and the inhabitants of the earth will gloat over them and celebrate and exchange presents, because these two prophets tormented the inhabitants of the earth.^(C)

¹¹ But after the three and a half days, the breath^[b] of life from God entered the two witnesses,^[c] and they stood on their feet, and those who saw them were terrified.^{(D) 12} Then they^[d] heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them, “Come up here!” And they went up to heaven in a cloud while their enemies watched them.^(E)

⁹ A young man named Eutychus, who was sitting in the window, began to sink off into a deep sleep while Paul talked still longer. Overcome by sleep, he fell to the ground three floors below and was picked up dead. ¹⁰ But Paul went down and bending over him took him in his arms and said, “Do not be alarmed, for his life is in him.”^{(A) 11} Then Paul went upstairs, and after he had broken bread and eaten, he continued to converse with them until dawn; then he left. ¹² Meanwhile they had taken the boy away alive and were not a little comforted.

Timothy Joins Paul and Silas

16 Paul^[a] went on also to Derbe and to Lystra, where there was a disciple named Timothy, the son of a Jewish woman who was a believer, but his father was a Greek.^(A)
