So, being (A)sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia and from there they sailed to (B)Cyprus. When they reached Salamis, they began to proclaim the word of God in (C)the synagogues of the Jews; and they also had (D)John as their helper. When they had gone through the whole island as far as Paphos, they found a (E)magician, a Jewish (F)false prophet whose name was Bar-Jesus, who was with the (G)proconsul, Sergius Paulus, a man of intelligence. This man summoned Barnabas and Saul and sought to hear the word of God. But Elymas the (H)magician (for so his name is translated) was opposing them, seeking to turn the (I)proconsul away from (J)the faith. And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness; and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand. 12 Then the proconsul, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the teaching of the Lord.
