The Lord's Answer

¹⁷ For it is time for judgment ^(A)to begin at the household of God; and ^(B)if it begins with us, what will be the outcome for those who ^(C)do not obey the gospel of God?

⁷ What then? ^(A)Israel failed to obtain what it was seeking. The elect obtained it, but the rest ^(B)were hardened, ⁸ as it is written,

⁹ And David says,

Gentiles Grafted In

¹¹ So I ask, did they stumble in order that they might fall? By no means! Rather, through their trespass ^(F)salvation has come to the Gentiles, so as to make Israel jealous. ¹² Now if their trespass means riches for the world, and if their failure means riches for the Gentiles, how much more will their full inclusion^[a] mean!

¹³ Now I am speaking to you Gentiles. Inasmuch then as ^(G)I am an apostle to the Gentiles, I magnify my ministry ¹⁴ in order somehow to make my fellow Jews jealous, and ^(H)thus save some of them.

^26 (A)the mystery hidden for ages and generations but now revealed to his saints. ^27 (B)To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are ^(C)the riches of the glory of ^(D)this mystery, which is Christ in you, ^(E)the hope of glory.

^34 (A)Therefore ^(B)I send you ^(C)prophets and wise men and ^(D)scribes, ^(E)some of whom you will kill and crucify, and ^(F)some you will ^(G)flog in your synagogues and ^(H)persecute from town to town, ³⁵ so that on you may come all ^(I)the righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of righteous ^(J)Abel to the blood of ^(K)Zechariah the son of Barachiah,^[a] whom you murdered between ^(L)the sanctuary and ^(M)the altar. ³⁶ Truly, I say to you, ^(N)all these things will come upon this generation.

Lament over Jerusalem

^37 (O)“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that ^(P)kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have ^(Q)gathered ^(R)your children together ^(S)as a hen gathers her brood ^(T)under her wings, and ^(U)you were not willing! ³⁸ See, ^(V)your house is left to you desolate.

⁷ The king was angry, and he sent his troops and ^(A)destroyed those murderers and burned their city. ⁸ Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding feast is ready, but those invited were not ^(B)worthy. ⁹ Go therefore to the main roads and invite to the wedding feast as many as you find.’ ¹⁰ And those servants went out into the roads and ^(C)gathered all whom they found, both bad and good. So the wedding hall was filled with guests.

⁴¹ They said to him, ^(A)“He will put those wretches to a miserable death and ^(B)let out the vineyard to other tenants who will give him the fruits in their seasons.”

⁴² Jesus said to them, ^(C)“Have you never read in the Scriptures:

⁴³ Therefore I tell you, the kingdom of God ^(E)will be taken away from you and given to a people ^(F)producing its fruits. ⁴⁴ And ^(G)the one who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; and ^(H)when it falls on anyone, it will crush him.”^[b]
