The Lord’s Reply

¹⁷ For the time has come ^(A)for judgment to begin at the house of God; and if it begins with us first, ^(B)what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God?

⁷ What then? ^(A)Israel has not obtained what it seeks; but the elect have obtained it, and the rest were ^(B)blinded. ⁸ Just as it is written:

⁹ And David says:

¹¹ I say then, have they stumbled that they should fall? Certainly not! But ^(F)through their ^[a]fall, to provoke them to ^(G)jealousy, salvation has come to the Gentiles. ¹² Now if their ^[b]fall is riches for the world, and their failure riches for the Gentiles, how much more their fullness!

¹³ For I speak to you Gentiles; inasmuch as ^(H)I am an apostle to the Gentiles, I magnify my ministry, ¹⁴ if by any means I may provoke to jealousy those who are my flesh and ^(I)save some of them.

^26 (A)the ^[a]mystery which has been hidden from ages and from generations, ^(B)but now has been revealed to His saints. ^27 (C)To them God willed to make known what are ^(D)the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: ^[b]which is ^(E)Christ in you, ^(F)the hope of glory.

^34 (A)Therefore, indeed, I send you prophets, wise men, and scribes: ^(B)some of them you will kill and crucify, and ^(C)some of them you will scourge in your synagogues and persecute from city to city, ^35 (D)that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, ^(E)from the blood of righteous Abel to ^(F)the blood of Zechariah, son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar. ³⁶ Assuredly, I say to you, all these things will come upon this generation.

Jesus Laments over Jerusalem^(G)

^37 (H)“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets ^(I)and stones those who are sent to her! How often ^(J)I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks ^(K)under her wings, but you were not willing! ³⁸ See! Your house is left to you desolate;

^41 (A)They said to Him, ^(B)“He will destroy those wicked men miserably, ^(C)and lease his vineyard to other vinedressers who will ^[a]render to him the fruits in their seasons.”

⁴² Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures:

⁴³ “Therefore I say to you, ^(E)the kingdom of God will be taken from you and given to a nation bearing the fruits of it. ⁴⁴ And ^(F)whoever falls on this stone will be broken; but on whomever it falls, ^(G)it will grind him to powder.”

²⁸ Anyone who has rejected Moses’ law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three ^(A)witnesses. ^29 (B)Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, ^(C)counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, ^(D)and insulted the Spirit of grace? ³⁰ For we know Him who said, ^(E)“Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” ^[a]says the Lord. And again, ^(F)“The Lord will judge His people.”
