⁴⁰ Beware therefore, lest what has been spoken in the prophets come upon you:

Hear the Heavenly Voice

²⁵ See that you do not refuse Him who speaks. For ^(A)if they did not escape who refused Him who spoke on earth, much more shall we not escape if we turn away from Him who speaks from heaven,

The Lord’s Reply

¹² Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God;

^3 (A)how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, ^(B)which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was ^(C)confirmed to us by those who heard Him,

⁹ and do not think to say to yourselves, ^(A)‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones. ¹⁰ And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. ^(B)Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. ^11 (C)I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. ^(D)He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit ^[a]and fire. ^12 (E)His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather His wheat into the barn; but He will ^(F)burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”
