¹² When the proconsul saw what had happened, he believed, for he was astonished at the teaching about the Lord.

⁷ He was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, an intelligent man who summoned Barnabas and Saul and wanted to hear the word of God.^(A)

⁴ for the weapons of our warfare are not merely human,^[a] but they have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments^{(A) 5} and every proud obstacle raised up against the knowledge of God, and we take every thought captive to obey Christ.^(B)

⁷ Now in the vicinity of that place were lands belonging to the leading man of the island, named Publius, who received us and entertained us hospitably for three days.

⁷ altogether there were about twelve of them.

³⁵ But Paul and Barnabas remained in Antioch, and there, with many others, they taught and proclaimed the word of the Lord.

⁴⁹ Thus the word of the Lord spread throughout the region.

¹⁰ But they could not withstand the wisdom and the Spirit^[a] with which he spoke.^(A)

⁴⁶ The police answered, “Never has anyone spoken like this!”

¹⁶ Fear seized all of them, and they glorified God, saying, “A great prophet has risen among us!” and “God has visited his people!”^(A)
