19 After Herod had a thorough search made for him and did not find him, he cross-examined the guards and ordered that they be executed.(A)
Herod’s Death
Then Herod went from Judea to Caesarea(B) and stayed there. 20 He had been quarreling with the people of Tyre and Sidon;(C) they now joined together and sought an audience with him. After securing the support of Blastus, a trusted personal servant of the king, they asked for peace, because they depended on the king’s country for their food supply.(D)
21 On the appointed day Herod, wearing his royal robes, sat on his throne and delivered a public address to the people. 22 They shouted, “This is the voice of a god, not of a man.” 23 Immediately, because Herod did not give praise to God, an angel(E) of the Lord struck him down,(F) and he was eaten by worms and died.
24 But the word of God(G) continued to spread and flourish.(H)

Herod’s Death
20 He had been very angry with the Tyrians and Sidonians.[a] Together they presented themselves before him. They won over Blastus, who was in charge of the king’s bedroom, and through him they asked for peace, because their country was supplied with food from the king’s country.(B) 21 So on an appointed day, dressed in royal robes and seated on the throne, Herod delivered a public address to them. 22 The assembled people began to shout, “It’s the voice of a god and not of a man!” 23 At once an angel of the Lord(C) struck him because he did not give the glory to God, and he became infected with worms and died.(D) 24 Then God’s message flourished and multiplied.(E)
