⁴ And they worshiped the dragon, for he had given his authority to the beast, and they worshiped the beast, saying, ^(A)“Who is like the beast, and who can fight against it?”

¹⁶ These are grumblers, malcontents, ^(A)following their own sinful desires; ^(B)they are loud-mouthed boasters, ^(C)showing favoritism to gain advantage.

⁷ All the ^(A)high officials of the kingdom, the prefects and the satraps, the ^(B)counselors and the governors are agreed that the king should establish an ordinance and enforce an ^(C)injunction, that whoever makes petition to any god or man for thirty days, except to you, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions.

¹⁰ said in a loud voice, “Stand upright on your feet.” And he ^(A)sprang up and began walking. ¹¹ And when the crowds saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in Lycaonian, ^(B)“The gods have come down to us in the likeness of men!” ¹² Barnabas they called ^(C)Zeus, and Paul, Hermes, because he was the chief speaker. ¹³ And the priest of ^(D)Zeus, whose temple was at the entrance to the city, brought oxen and garlands to the gates and ^(E)wanted to offer sacrifice with the crowds.
