¹⁰ They passed the first and second guards and came to the iron gate leading to the city. It opened for them by itself,^(A) and they went through it. When they had walked the length of one street, suddenly the angel left him.

¹⁹ But during the night an angel^(A) of the Lord opened the doors of the jail^(B) and brought them out.^(C)

²⁶ Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken.^(A) At once all the prison doors flew open,^(B) and everyone’s chains came loose.^(C)

Jesus Appears to His Disciples

¹⁹ On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders,^(A) Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace^(B) be with you!”^(C)

⁸ And the lookout^[a](A) shouted,

³⁴ and they kept him in custody, because it was not clear what should be done to him.^(A)

¹⁷ And he put them all in custody^(A) for three days.

³ and put them in custody in the house of the captain of the guard,^(A) in the same prison where Joseph was confined.
