(A)I was in the city of Joppa praying; and in a trance I saw (B)a vision, an [a]object coming down like a great sheet lowered by four corners from the sky; and it came to where I was, and I stared at it and was thinking about it, and I saw the four-footed animals of the earth, the wild animals, the [b]crawling creatures, and the birds of the sky. I also heard a voice saying to me, ‘Get up, Peter; [c]kill and eat.’ But I said, ‘By no means, Lord, for nothing [d]unholy or unclean has ever entered my mouth.’ But a voice from heaven answered a second time, ‘(C)What God has cleansed, no longer [e]consider unholy.’ 10 This happened three times, and everything was drawn back up into the sky. 11 And behold, at that moment three men who had been sent to me from (D)Caesarea came up to the house where we were staying. 12 (E)And the Spirit told me to go with them (F)without [f]misgivings. (G)These six brothers also went with me, and we entered the man’s house. 13 And he reported to us how he had seen the angel [g]standing in his house, and saying, ‘Send some men to Joppa and have Simon, who is also called Peter, brought here; 14 and he will speak (H)words to you by which you will be saved, you and (I)all your household.’ 15 And as I began to speak, (J)the Holy Spirit fell upon them just (K)as He did upon us at the beginning. 16 And I remembered the word of the Lord, how He used to say, (L)John baptized with water, but you will be baptized [h]with the Holy Spirit.’ 17 Therefore, if (M)God gave them the same gift as He also gave to us after believing in the Lord Jesus Christ, (N)who was I that I could [i]stand in God’s way?” 18 When they heard this, they [j]quieted down and (O)glorified God, saying, “Well then, God has also granted to the Gentiles the (P)repentance that leads to life.”

(A)“I was in the city of Joppa praying; and in a trance I saw a vision, an object descending like a great sheet, let down from heaven by four corners; and it came to me. When I observed it intently and considered, I saw four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, creeping things, and birds of the air. And I heard a voice saying to me, ‘Rise, Peter; kill and eat.’ But I said, ‘Not so, Lord! For nothing common or unclean has at any time entered my mouth.’ But the voice answered me again from heaven, ‘What God has cleansed you must not call common.’ 10 Now this was done three times, and all were drawn up again into heaven. 11 At that very moment, three men stood before the house where I was, having been sent to me from Caesarea. 12 Then (B)the Spirit told me to go with them, doubting nothing. Moreover (C)these six brethren accompanied me, and we entered the man’s house. 13 (D)And he told us how he had seen an angel standing in his house, who said to him, ‘Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon whose surname is Peter, 14 who will tell you words by which you and all your household will be saved.’ 15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them, (E)as upon us at the beginning. 16 Then I remembered the word of the Lord, how He said, (F)‘John indeed baptized with water, but (G)you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’ 17 (H)If therefore God gave them the same gift as He gave us when we believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, (I)who was I that I could withstand God?”

18 When they heard these things they became silent; and they glorified God, saying, (J)“Then God has also granted to the Gentiles repentance to life.”
