² And when Peter came up to Jerusalem, ^(A)those of the circumcision contended with him,

^45 (A)And ^[a]those of the circumcision who believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, ^(B)because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also.

¹² for before certain men came from James, ^(A)he would eat with the Gentiles; but when they came, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing ^[a]those who were of the circumcision. ¹³ And the rest of the Jews also played the hypocrite with him, so that even Barnabas was carried away with their hypocrisy.

¹⁴ But when I saw that they were not straightforward about ^(B)the truth of the gospel, I said to Peter ^(C)before them all, ^(D)“If you, being a Jew, live in the manner of Gentiles and not as the Jews, ^[b]why do you compel Gentiles to live as ^[c]Jews?

²⁰ And when they heard it, they glorified the Lord. And they said to him, “You see, brother, how many myriads of Jews there are who have believed, and they are all ^(A)zealous for the law; ²¹ but they have been informed about you that you teach all the Jews who are among the Gentiles to forsake Moses, saying that they ought not to circumcise their children nor to walk according to the customs. ^22 [a]What then? The assembly must certainly meet, for they will hear that you have come. ²³ Therefore do what we tell you: We have four men who have taken a vow.

⁵ But some of the sect of the Pharisees who believed rose up, saying, “It is necessary to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.”

Conflict over Circumcision

15 And ^(A)certain men came down from Judea and taught the brethren, ^(B)“Unless you are circumcised according to the custom of Moses, you cannot be saved.”

Peter’s Vision

⁹ The next day, as they went on their journey and drew near the city, ^(A)Peter went up on the housetop to pray, about ^[a]the sixth hour.
