² So when Peter went up to Jerusalem, the circumcised believers^(A) criticized him

⁴⁵ The circumcised believers who had come with Peter^(A) were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out^(B) even on Gentiles.^(C)

¹² For before certain men came from James,^(A) he used to eat with the Gentiles.^(B) But when they arrived, he began to draw back and separate himself from the Gentiles because he was afraid of those who belonged to the circumcision group.^{(C) 13} The other Jews joined him in his hypocrisy, so that by their hypocrisy even Barnabas^(D) was led astray.

¹⁴ When I saw that they were not acting in line with the truth of the gospel,^(E) I said to Cephas^(F) in front of them all, “You are a Jew, yet you live like a Gentile and not like a Jew.^(G) How is it, then, that you force Gentiles to follow Jewish customs?^(H)

²⁰ When they heard this, they praised God. Then they said to Paul: “You see, brother, how many thousands of Jews have believed, and all of them are zealous^(A) for the law.^{(B) 21} They have been informed that you teach all the Jews who live among the Gentiles to turn away from Moses,^(C) telling them not to circumcise their children^(D) or live according to our customs.^{(E) 22} What shall we do? They will certainly hear that you have come, ²³ so do what we tell you. There are four men with us who have made a vow.^(F)

⁵ Then some of the believers who belonged to the party^(A) of the Pharisees^(B) stood up and said, “The Gentiles must be circumcised and required to keep the law of Moses.”^(C)

The Council at Jerusalem

15 Certain people^(A) came down from Judea to Antioch and were teaching the believers:^(B) “Unless you are circumcised,^(C) according to the custom taught by Moses,^(D) you cannot be saved.”
