^17 (A)If therefore God gave them the same gift as He gave us when we believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, ^(B)who was I that I could withstand God?”

⁴⁷ “Can anyone forbid water, that these should not be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit ^(A)just as we have?”

²⁰ But indeed, O man, who are you to reply against God? ^(A)Will the thing formed say to him who formed it, “Why have you made me like this?” ²¹ Does not the ^(B)potter have power over the clay, from the same lump to make ^(C)one vessel for honor and another for dishonor?

²² What if God, wanting to show His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much longsuffering ^(D)the vessels of wrath ^(E)prepared for destruction, ²³ and that He might make known ^(F)the riches of His glory on the vessels of mercy, which He had ^(G)prepared beforehand for glory, ²⁴ even us whom He ^(H)called, ^(I)not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?

²⁵ As He says also in Hosea:

³⁶ For ^(D)of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, ^(E)to whom be glory forever. Amen.

¹⁵ For He says to Moses, ^(A)“I will have mercy on whomever I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whomever I will have compassion.” ¹⁶ So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy.

⁸ So God, ^(A)who knows the heart, ^[a]acknowledged them by ^(B)giving them the Holy Spirit, just as He did to us, ^9 (C)and made no distinction between us and them, ^(D)purifying their hearts by faith.

¹⁵ And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them, ^(A)as upon us at the beginning.
