Gentiles Receive the Holy Spirit
44 While Peter was still speaking, the Holy Spirit fell upon all who heard the word. 45 The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astounded that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles, 46 for they heard them speaking in tongues and extolling God. Then Peter said, 47 “Can anyone withhold the water for baptizing these people who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?” 48 So he ordered them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they invited him to stay for several days.

44 Mentre Pietro parlava così, lo Spirito Santo scese su tutti quelli che ascoltavano la Parola. 45 E tutti i credenti circoncisi, che erano venuti con Pietro, si meravigliarono che il dono dello Spirito Santo fosse dato anche agli stranieri[a], 46 perché li udivano parlare in altre lingue e glorificare Dio.
47 Allora Pietro disse: «C’è forse qualcuno che possa negare l’acqua e impedire che siano battezzati questi che hanno ricevuto lo Spirito Santo come noi?» 48 E comandò che fossero battezzati nel nome di Gesù Cristo[b]. Allora essi lo pregarono di rimanere alcuni giorni con loro.

47 Kann auch jemand diesen das Wasser verwehren, dass sie nicht getauft werden sollten, die den Heiligen Geist empfangen haben gleichwie wir?
48 Und er befahl, dass sie getauft würden im Namen des Herrn. Da baten sie ihn, etliche Tage zu bleiben.

44 Miközben Péter még beszélt, a Szent Szellem leszállt mindenkire, akik Pétert hallgatták. 45 A zsidó hívők, akik Péterrel együtt jöttek, elcsodálkoztak azon, hogy Isten a más nemzethez tartozóknak is adta a Szent Szellem ajándékát, 46 mert hallották, hogy azok más nyelveken szólnak, és Istent dicsérik. Ekkor Péter azt mondta: 47 „Senki sem tilthatja meg nekik, hogy bemerítkezzenek, hiszen ők is ugyanúgy megkapták a Szent Szellemet, mint mi!” 48 Így azután Péter úgy rendelkezett, hogy Kornéliusz, meg a rokonai és barátai mind merítkezzenek be Jézus, a Messiás nevébe. Így is történt. Azok pedig kérték Pétert, hogy maradjon velük még néhány napig.

44 Alors que Pierre prononçait ces mots, l’Esprit Saint descendit soudain sur tous ceux qui écoutaient la Parole. 45 Les croyants juifs qui étaient venus avec Pierre furent très étonnés de voir que l’Esprit Saint était aussi donné aux non-Juifs, et répandu sur eux. 46 En effet, ils les entendaient parler en différentes langues et célébrer la grandeur de Dieu.
47 Alors Pierre demanda : Peut-on refuser de baptiser dans l’eau ceux qui ont reçu l’Esprit Saint aussi bien que nous ?
48 Et il donna ordre de les baptiser au nom de Jésus-Christ. Ensuite, ils le prièrent de rester encore quelques jours avec eux.
