³⁹ We are witnesses to all that he did both in Judea and in Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a tree,^{(A) 40} but God raised him on the third day and allowed him to appear,^{(B) 41} not to all the people but to us who were chosen by God as witnesses and who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.^(C)

¹³ Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”^(A)— ¹⁴ in order that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the gentiles, so that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.^(B)

²³ When he was abused, he did not return abuse; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but he entrusted himself to the one who judges justly.^{(A) 24} He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross,^[a] so that, having died to sins, we might live for righteousness; by his wounds^[b] you have been healed.^{(B) 25} For you were going astray like sheep, but now you have returned to the shepherd and guardian of your souls.^[c](C)
