³⁰ Cornelius answered: “Three days ago I was in my house praying at this hour, at three in the afternoon. Suddenly a man in shining clothes^(A) stood before me

³ One day at about three in the afternoon^(A) he had a vision.^(B) He distinctly saw an angel^(C) of God, who came to him and said, “Cornelius!”

The Seventy “Sevens”

²⁰ While I was speaking and praying, confessing^(A) my sin and the sin of my people Israel and making my request to the Lord my God for his holy hill^(B)— ²¹ while I was still in prayer, Gabriel,^(C) the man I had seen in the earlier vision, came to me in swift flight about the time of the evening sacrifice.^(D)

²³ Then Peter invited the men into the house to be his guests.

Peter at Cornelius’s House

The next day Peter started out with them, and some of the believers^(A) from Joppa went along.^{(B) 24} The following day he arrived in Caesarea.^(C) Cornelius was expecting them and had called together his relatives and close friends.

¹⁰ They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white^(A) stood beside them.

The Israelites Confess Their Sins

9 On the twenty-fourth day of the same month, the Israelites gathered together, fasting and wearing sackcloth and putting dust on their heads.^{(A) 2} Those of Israelite descent had separated themselves from all foreigners.^(B) They stood in their places and confessed their sins and the sins of their ancestors.^{(C) 3} They stood where they were and read from the Book of the Law of the Lord their God for a quarter of the day, and spent another quarter in confession and in worshiping the Lord their God.

⁴ Then everyone who trembled^(A) at the words of the God of Israel gathered around me because of this unfaithfulness of the exiles. And I sat there appalled^(B) until the evening sacrifice.

⁵ Then, at the evening sacrifice,^(C) I rose from my self-abasement, with my tunic and cloak torn, and fell on my knees with my hands^(D) spread out to the Lord my God

⁷ When the angel who spoke to him had gone, Cornelius called two of his servants and a devout soldier who was one of his attendants. ⁸ He told them everything that had happened and sent them to Joppa.^(A)

⁹ About noon the following day as they were on their journey and approaching the city, Peter went up on the roof^(C) to pray.
