⁹ After he said this, he was taken up^(A) before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.

¹⁰ They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white^(B) stood beside them. ¹¹ “Men of Galilee,”^(C) they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back^(D) in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”

¹² Then the apostles returned to Jerusalem^(E) from the hill called the Mount of Olives,^(F) a Sabbath day’s walk^[a] from the city.

³³ Who will bring any charge^(A) against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. ³⁴ Who then is the one who condemns?^(B) No one. Christ Jesus who died^(C)—more than that, who was raised to life^(D)—is at the right hand of God^(E) and is also interceding for us.^{(F) 35} Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?^(G) Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?^(H)

⁵ In the same way, Christ did not take on himself the glory^(A) of becoming a high priest.^(B) But God said^(C) to him,

⁶ And he says in another place,

⁷ During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions^(G) with fervent cries and tears^(H) to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard^(I) because of his reverent submission.^{(J) 8} Son^(K) though he was, he learned obedience from what he suffered^{(L) 9} and, once made perfect,^(M) he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him ¹⁰ and was designated by God to be high priest^(N) in the order of Melchizedek.^(O)

²⁵ Therefore he is able to save^(A) completely^[a] those who come to God^(B) through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.^(C)

²⁴ For Christ did not enter a sanctuary made with human hands that was only a copy of the true one;^(A) he entered heaven itself,^(B) now to appear for us in God’s presence.^(C)

2 My dear children,^(A) I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate^(B) with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. ² He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins,^(C) and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.^(D)
