The Holy Spirit Promised

^4 (A)And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have ^(B)heard from Me;

^49 (A)Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city ^[a]of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.”

¹⁶ And I will pray the Father, and ^(A)He will give you another ^[a]Helper, that He may abide with you forever—

The Coming Rejection

^26 (A)“But when the ^[a]Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, ^(B)He will testify of Me.

^39 (A)But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those ^[a]believing in Him would receive; for the ^[b]Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet ^(B)glorified.

³³ Therefore ^(A)being exalted ^[a]to ^(B)the right hand of God, and ^(C)having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He ^(D)poured out this which you now see and hear.

²² And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.

⁷ Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but ^(A)if I depart, I will send Him to you. ⁸ And when He has ^(B)come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: ^9 (C)of sin, because they do not believe in Me; ^10 (D)of righteousness, ^(E)because I go to My Father and you see Me no more; ^11 (F)of judgment, because ^(G)the ruler of this world is judged.

¹² “I still have many things to say to you, ^(H)but you cannot bear them now. ¹³ However, when He, ^(I)the Spirit of truth, has come, ^(J)He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. ^14 (K)He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. ^15 (L)All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He ^[a]will take of Mine and declare it to you.

²⁶ But ^(A)the ^[a]Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will ^(B)send in My name, ^(C)He will teach you all things, and bring to your ^(D)remembrance all things that I said to you. ^27 (E)Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. ²⁸ You have heard Me ^(F)say to you, ‘I am going away and coming back to you.’ If you loved Me, you would rejoice because ^[b]I said, ^(G)‘I am going to the Father,’ for ^(H)My Father is greater than I.
