Prologue

1 The former account I made, O ^(A)Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,

³ it seemed good to me also, having ^[a]had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write to you an orderly account, ^(A)most excellent Theophilus,

¹⁹ And He said to them, “What things?”

So they said to Him, “The things concerning Jesus of Nazareth, ^(A)who was a Prophet ^(B)mighty in deed and word before God and all the people,

Jesus Heals a Great Multitude^(A)

²³ And Jesus went about all Galilee, ^(B)teaching in their synagogues, preaching ^(C)the gospel of the kingdom, ^(D)and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people. ²⁴ Then ^[a]His fame went throughout all Syria; and they ^(E)brought to Him all sick people who were afflicted with various diseases and torments, and those who were demon-possessed, epileptics, and paralytics; and He healed them.

The Genealogy of Jesus Christ^(A)

²³ Now Jesus Himself began His ministry at ^(B)about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) ^(C)the son of Joseph, the son of Heli,

²¹ For ^(A)to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for ^[a]us, ^(B)leaving ^[b]us an example, that you should follow His steps:

^23 (D)who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but ^(E)committed Himself to Him who judges righteously;

²² “Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a Man attested by God to you ^(A)by miracles, wonders, and signs which God did through Him in your midst, as you yourselves also know—

³² Jesus answered them, “Many good works I have shown you from My Father. For which of those works do you stone Me?”

³³ The Jews answered Him, saying, “For a good work we do not stone You, but for ^(A)blasphemy, and because You, being a Man, ^(B)make Yourself God.”

³⁴ Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your law, ^(C)‘I said, “You are gods” ’? ³⁵ If He called them gods, ^(D)to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture ^(E)cannot be broken), ³⁶ do you say of Him ^(F)whom the Father sanctified and ^(G)sent into the world, ‘You are blaspheming,’ ^(H)because I said, ‘I am ^(I)the Son of God’? ^37 (J)If I do not do the works of My Father, do not believe Me; ³⁸ but if I do, though you do not believe Me, ^(K)believe the works, that you may know and ^[a]believe ^(L)that the Father is in Me, and I in Him.”

²¹ And that very hour He cured many of ^[a]infirmities, afflictions, and evil spirits; and to many blind He gave sight.

^22 (A)Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and tell John the things you have seen and heard: ^(B)that the blind ^(C)see, the lame ^(D)walk, the lepers are ^(E)cleansed, the deaf ^(F)hear, the dead are raised, ^(G)the poor have the gospel preached to them. ²³ And blessed is he who is not ^[b]offended because of Me.”
