^4 [a]Gathering them together, He commanded them ^(A)not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for ^[b](B)what the Father had promised, “Which,” He said, “you heard of from Me; ⁵ for ^(C)John baptized ^[c]with water, but you will be baptized ^[d]with the Holy Spirit ^[e](D)not many days from now.”

The Upper Room

¹² Then they ^(A)returned to Jerusalem from the ^[a](B)mountain called ^[b]Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a ^[c]Sabbath day’s journey away. ¹³ When they had entered the city, they went up to ^(C)the upstairs room where they were staying, that is, ^(D)Peter, John, ^[d]James, and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, ^[e]James the son of Alphaeus, Simon the Zealot, and ^(E)Judas the ^[f]son of ^[g]James. ¹⁴ All these ^(F)were continually devoting themselves with one ^[h]mind to prayer, along with ^(G)the women, and Mary the ^(H)mother of Jesus, and with His ^(I)brothers.

The Day of Pentecost

2 When ^(A)the day of Pentecost ^[a]had come, they were all together in one place. ² And suddenly a noise like a violent rushing wind came from heaven, and it filled ^(B)the whole house where they were sitting. ³ And tongues that looked like fire appeared to them, ^[b]distributing themselves, and a tongue ^[c]rested on each one of them. ⁴ And they were all ^(C)filled with the Holy Spirit and began to ^(D)speak with different ^[d]tongues, as the Spirit was giving them the ability to speak out.
