Acts 8:9-13

⁹Now a man named Simon had previously been practicing ^(A)magic in the city and astonishing the people of Samaria, ^(B)claiming to be someone great; ¹⁰and all the people, from small to great, were paying attention to him, saying, “^(C)This man is the Power of God that is called Great.” ¹¹And they were paying attention to him because for a long time he had astounded them with his ^(D)magic arts. ¹²But when they believed Philip ^(E)as he was preaching the good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, both men and women were being ^(F)baptized. ¹³Now even Simon himself believed; and after being baptized, he continued on with Philip, and as he observed ^(G)signs and ^(H)great miracles taking place, he was repeatedly amazed.

⁹Now in that city there was a man named Simon. He was practicing occult arts and thrilling the people of Samaria, claiming to be someone great. ¹⁰Everyone from the least to the greatest paid close attention to him, saying, “This is what we call^[a] the great power of God!” ¹¹They paid careful attention to him because he had thrilled them for a long time with his occult performances. ¹²But when Philip proclaimed the good news about the kingdom of God and about the name of Jesus the Messiah,^[b] men and women believed and were baptized. ¹³Even Simon believed, and after he was baptized he became devoted to Philip. He was amazed to see the signs and great miracles that were happening.

Simon the Sorcerer

⁹Now for some time a man named Simon had practiced sorcery^(A) in the city and amazed all the people of Samaria. He boasted that he was someone great,^(B) ¹⁰and all the people, both high and low, gave him their attention and exclaimed, “This man is rightly called the Great Power of God.”^(C) ¹¹They followed him because he had amazed them for a long time with his sorcery. ¹²But when they believed Philip as he proclaimed the good news of the kingdom of God^(D) and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized,^(E) both men and women. ¹³Simon himself believed and was baptized. And he followed Philip everywhere, astonished by the great signs and miracles^(F) he saw.
