⁵⁸ And when they had ^(A)driven him out of the city, they began stoning him; and ^(B)the witnesses ^(C)laid aside their garments at the feet of ^(D)a young man named Saul. ⁵⁹ They went on stoning Stephen as he ^(E)was calling out and saying, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit!” ⁶⁰ Then ^(F)falling on his knees, he cried out with a loud voice, “Lord, ^(G)do not hold this sin against them!” And having said this, he ^[a](H)fell asleep.

Saul Persecutes the Church

8 ^(I)Now Saul was in hearty agreement with putting him to death.

And on that day a great persecution ^[b]began against ^(J)the church in Jerusalem, and they were all ^(K)scattered throughout the regions of Judea and ^(L)Samaria, except the apostles.

¹⁰ And this is ^[a]just what I ^(A)did in Jerusalem; not only did I lock up many of the ^[b]saints in prisons, having ^(B)received authority from the chief priests, but also when they were being put to death I ^(C)cast my vote against them.
