⁵ The statement found approval with the whole ^[a]congregation; and they chose ^(A)Stephen, a man ^(B)full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, and ^(C)Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas and ^[b]Nicolas, a ^[c](D)proselyte from ^(E)Antioch.

The Church at Antioch

^19 (A)So then those who were scattered because of the ^[a]persecution that occurred in connection with Stephen made their way ^[b]to ^(B)Phoenicia and ^(C)Cyprus and ^(D)Antioch, speaking the word to no one except to Jews alone.

²² The ^[a]news about them ^[b]reached the ears of the church at Jerusalem, and they sent ^(A)Barnabas off ^[c]to ^(B)Antioch.

²⁷ Now ^[a]at this time ^(A)some prophets came down from Jerusalem to ^(B)Antioch.

First Missionary Journey

13 Now there were at ^(A)Antioch, in the ^(B)church that was there, ^(C)prophets and ^(D)teachers: ^(E)Barnabas, and Simeon who was called Niger, and Lucius of ^(F)Cyrene, and Manaen who had been brought up with ^(G)Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.

²⁶ From there they sailed to ^(A)Antioch, from ^(B)which they had been ^(C)commended to the grace of God for the work that they had ^[a]accomplished.

²² Then it seemed good to ^(A)the apostles and the elders, with the whole church, to choose men from among them to send to ^(B)Antioch with Paul and Barnabas—Judas called Barsabbas, and ^(C)Silas, leading men among ^(D)the brethren, ²³ and they ^[a]sent this letter by them,

³⁰ So when they were sent away, ^(X)they went down to Antioch; and having gathered the ^[f]congregation together, they delivered the letter. ³¹ When they had read it, they rejoiced because of its ^[g]encouragement. ^32 (Y)Judas and ^(Z)Silas, also being ^(AA)prophets themselves, ^[h]encouraged and strengthened ^(AB)the brethren with a lengthy message. ³³ After they had spent time there, they were sent away from the brethren ^(AC)in peace to those who had ^(AD)sent them out. ³⁴ [^[i]But it seemed good to Silas to remain there.] ³⁵ But ^(AE)Paul and Barnabas stayed in Antioch, teaching and ^(AF)preaching with many others also, ^(AG)the word of the Lord.

Second Missionary Journey

³⁶ After some days Paul said to Barnabas, “Let us return and visit the brethren in ^(AH)every city in which we proclaimed ^(AI)the word of the Lord, and see how they are.” ³⁷ Barnabas wanted to take ^(AJ)John, called Mark, along with them also. ³⁸ But Paul kept insisting that they should not take him along who had ^(AK)deserted them ^[j]in Pamphylia and had not gone with them to the work. ³⁹ And there occurred such a sharp disagreement that they separated from one another, and Barnabas took ^(AL)Mark with him and sailed away to ^(AM)Cyprus. ⁴⁰ But Paul chose ^(AN)Silas and left, being ^(AO)committed by the brethren to the grace of the Lord. ⁴¹ And he was traveling through ^(AP)Syria and ^(AQ)Cilicia, strengthening the churches.

³⁰ So when they were sent away, ^(A)they went down to Antioch; and having gathered the ^[a]congregation together, they delivered the letter.

³⁵ But ^(A)Paul and Barnabas stayed in Antioch, teaching and ^(B)preaching with many others also, ^(C)the word of the Lord.
