12 “There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among mortals by which we must be saved.”(A)
13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John and realized that they were uneducated and ordinary men, they were amazed and recognized them as companions of Jesus.(B) 14 When they saw the man who had been cured standing beside them, they had nothing to say in opposition. 15 So they ordered them to leave the council while they discussed the matter with one another.(C) 16 They said, “What will we do with them? For it is obvious to all who live in Jerusalem that a notable sign has been done through them; we cannot deny it.(D) 17 But to keep it from spreading further among the people, let us warn them to speak no more to anyone in this name.” 18 So they called them and ordered them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus.(E) 19 But Peter and John answered them, “Whether it is right in God’s sight to listen to you rather than to God, you must judge;(F) 20 for we cannot keep from speaking about what we have seen and heard.”(G)

13 When they saw the courage of Peter and John(B) and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men,(C) they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.(D) 14 But since they could see the man who had been healed standing there with them, there was nothing they could say. 15 So they ordered them to withdraw from the Sanhedrin(E) and then conferred together. 16 “What are we going to do with these men?”(F) they asked. “Everyone living in Jerusalem knows they have performed a notable sign,(G) and we cannot deny it. 17 But to stop this thing from spreading any further among the people, we must warn them to speak no longer to anyone in this name.”
18 Then they called them in again and commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus.(H) 19 But Peter and John replied, “Which is right in God’s eyes: to listen to you, or to him?(I) You be the judges! 20 As for us, we cannot help speaking(J) about what we have seen and heard.”(K)
