17 After[a] hoisting it up,[b] they made use of supports to undergird the ship. And because they[c] were afraid lest they run aground on the Syrtis, they lowered the sea anchor and[d] thus were driven along. 18 And because[e] we were violently battered by the storm, on the next day they began[f] jettisoning the cargo,[g] 19 and on the third day they threw overboard the gear of the ship with their own hands.

17 so the men hoisted it aboard. Then they passed ropes under the ship itself to hold it together. Because they were afraid they would run aground(A) on the sandbars of Syrtis, they lowered the sea anchor[a] and let the ship be driven along. 18 We took such a violent battering from the storm that the next day they began to throw the cargo overboard.(B) 19 On the third day, they threw the ship’s tackle overboard with their own hands.
