¹⁹ Then some Jews^(A) came from Antioch and Iconium^(B) and won the crowd over. They stoned Paul^(C) and dragged him outside the city, thinking he was dead.

³⁶ If he comes suddenly, do not let him find you sleeping.

⁴⁰ Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. “Couldn’t you men keep watch with me^(A) for one hour?” he asked Peter. ⁴¹ “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.^(B) The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

⁵ All the sailors were afraid and each cried out to his own god. And they threw the cargo into the sea to lighten the ship.^(A)

But Jonah had gone below deck, where he lay down and fell into a deep sleep. ⁶ The captain went to him and said, “How can you sleep? Get up and call^(B) on your god! Maybe he will take notice of us so that we will not perish.”^(C)

²⁶ The spirit shrieked, convulsed him violently and came out. The boy looked so much like a corpse that many said, “He’s dead.”
