16 For Paul had determined to sail-by Ephesus so that it might not happen to him that he lose-time in Asia. For he was hurrying to be in Jerusalem— if it might be possible for him— the day of Pentecost.

16 Paul had decided to sail past Ephesus(A) to avoid spending time in the province of Asia,(B) for he was in a hurry to reach Jerusalem,(C) if possible, by the day of Pentecost.(D)
17 From Miletus,(E) Paul sent to Ephesus for the elders(F) of the church. 18 When they arrived, he said to them: “You know how I lived the whole time I was with you,(G) from the first day I came into the province of Asia.(H)
