2 And he said to them, (A)“Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” And they said, “No, (B)we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.” 3 And he said, (C)“Into what then were you baptized?” They said, “Into (D)John's baptism.” 4 And Paul said, (E)“John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people (F)to believe in the one who was to come after him, that is, Jesus.” 5 On hearing this, (G)they were baptized in[a] the name of the Lord Jesus. 6 And (H)when Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and (I)they began speaking in tongues and (J)prophesying.

New International Version
2 and asked them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit(A) when[a] you believed?”
They answered, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”
3 So Paul asked, “Then what baptism did you receive?”
“John’s baptism,” they replied.
4 Paul said, “John’s baptism(B) was a baptism of repentance. He told the people to believe in the one coming after him, that is, in Jesus.”(C) 5 On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.(D) 6 When Paul placed his hands on them,(E) the Holy Spirit came on them,(F) and they spoke in tongues[b](G) and prophesied.
