⁵ But ^(A)the Jews, becoming jealous, taking along some wicked men from the marketplace, and forming a mob, set the city in an uproar. And attacking the house of ^(B)Jason, they were seeking to bring them out to the assembly.

⁴ For indeed when we were with you, we kept telling you in advance that we were going to suffer affliction, ^(A)just as it happened and as you know.

⁴ so that we ourselves ^(A)boast about you among ^(B)the churches of God for your ^[a]perseverance and faith ^(C)in the midst of all your persecutions and afflictions which you endure.

God’s Righteous Judgment

⁵ This is a ^(D)plain indication of God’s righteous judgment so that you will be ^(E)considered worthy of the kingdom of God, for which indeed you are suffering. ^6 [b]Since ^(F)it is right ^[c]for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you, ⁷ and to give rest to you who are afflicted ^[d]and to us as well ^(G)at the revelation of the Lord Jesus ^(H)from heaven ^(I)with ^[e]His mighty angels ^(J)in flaming fire, ⁸ executing vengeance on those who ^(K)do not know God and to those who ^(L)do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. ⁹ These will pay the penalty of ^(M)eternal destruction, ^(N)away from the presence of the ^[f]Lord and from the glory of His might, ¹⁰ when He comes to be ^(O)glorified ^[g]in His ^[h]saints on that ^(P)day, and to be marveled at among all who have believed—for our ^(Q)witness to you was believed. ¹¹ To this end also we ^(R)pray for you always, that our God will ^[i](S)count you worthy of your ^(T)calling, and fulfill all your ^(U)good pleasure for ^(V)goodness and the ^(W)work of faith with power, ¹² so that the ^(X)name of our Lord Jesus will be glorified in you, and you in Him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
