21 Then they asked for a king, and God gave them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years.(A) 22 After removing him,(B) he raised up David as their king and testified about him, ‘I have found David the son of Jesse to be a man after my own heart,[a](C) who will carry out all my will.’
23 “From this man’s descendants, as he promised, God brought to Israel(D) the Savior, Jesus.[b]

21 Then the people asked for a king,(A) and he gave them Saul(B) son of Kish, of the tribe of Benjamin,(C) who ruled forty years. 22 After removing Saul,(D) he made David their king.(E) God testified concerning him: ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart;(F) he will do everything I want him to do.’(G)
23 “From this man’s descendants(H) God has brought to Israel the Savior(I) Jesus,(J) as he promised.(K)
