Acts 24:27-25:12
New Revised Standard Version Updated Edition
27 After two years had passed, Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus, and since he wanted to grant the Jews a favor, Felix left Paul in prison.(A)
Paul Appeals to the Emperor
25 Three days after Festus had arrived in the province, he went up from Caesarea to Jerusalem, 2 where the chief priests and the leaders of the Jews gave him a report against Paul. They appealed to him(B) 3 and requested, as a favor to them against Paul,[a] to have him transferred to Jerusalem. They were, in fact, planning an ambush to kill him along the way.(C) 4 Festus replied that Paul was being kept at Caesarea and that he himself intended to go there shortly.(D) 5 “So,” he said, “let those of you who have the authority come down with me, and if there is anything wrong about the man, let them accuse him.”
6 After he had stayed among them not more than eight or ten days, he went down to Caesarea; the next day he took his seat on the tribunal and ordered Paul to be brought. 7 When he arrived, the Jews who had gone down from Jerusalem surrounded him, bringing many serious charges against him, which they could not prove.(E) 8 Paul said in his defense, “I have in no way committed an offense against the law of the Jews or against the temple or against the emperor.”(F) 9 But Festus, wishing to do the Jews a favor, asked Paul, “Do you wish to go up to Jerusalem and be tried there before me on these charges?”(G) 10 Paul said, “I am standing before the emperor’s tribunal; this is where I should be tried. I have done no wrong to the Jews, as you very well know. 11 Now if I am in the wrong and have committed something for which I deserve to die, I am not trying to escape death, but if there is nothing to their charges against me, no one can turn me over to them. I appeal to the emperor.”(H) 12 Then Festus, after he had conferred with his council, replied, “You have appealed to the emperor; to the emperor you will go.”

Paul’s Trial Before Festus
25 Three days after arriving in the province, Festus(D) went up from Caesarea(E) to Jerusalem, 2 where the chief priests and the Jewish leaders appeared before him and presented the charges against Paul.(F) 3 They requested Festus, as a favor to them, to have Paul transferred to Jerusalem, for they were preparing an ambush to kill him along the way.(G) 4 Festus answered, “Paul is being held(H) at Caesarea,(I) and I myself am going there soon. 5 Let some of your leaders come with me, and if the man has done anything wrong, they can press charges against him there.”
6 After spending eight or ten days with them, Festus went down to Caesarea. The next day he convened the court(J) and ordered that Paul be brought before him.(K) 7 When Paul came in, the Jews who had come down from Jerusalem stood around him. They brought many serious charges against him,(L) but they could not prove them.(M)
8 Then Paul made his defense: “I have done nothing wrong against the Jewish law or against the temple(N) or against Caesar.”
9 Festus, wishing to do the Jews a favor,(O) said to Paul, “Are you willing to go up to Jerusalem and stand trial before me there on these charges?”(P)
10 Paul answered: “I am now standing before Caesar’s court, where I ought to be tried. I have not done any wrong to the Jews,(Q) as you yourself know very well. 11 If, however, I am guilty of doing anything deserving death, I do not refuse to die. But if the charges brought against me by these Jews are not true, no one has the right to hand me over to them. I appeal to Caesar!”(R)
12 After Festus had conferred with his council, he declared: “You have appealed to Caesar. To Caesar you will go!”
