Bible 21
1 Vidění Abdiášovo. Toto praví Panovník Hospodin o Edomu.
Trest nad Edomem
Od Hospodina jsme slyšeli zprávu,
že byl vyslán posel k národům:
„Vzhůru! Do útoku!
Válčete proti Edomu!“ [a]
2 Hle, činím tě nepatrným mezi národy,
budeš v největším opovržení!
3 Pýcha tvého srdce tě oklamala,
tebe, jenž bydlíš v rozeklaných skalách.
Myslíš si ve výšce svého obydlí:
„Kdo by mě k zemi porazil?“
4 I kdyby ses vznášel jako orel
a postavil sis hnízdo mezi hvězdami,
i odtamtud bych tě srazil,
praví Hospodin.
5 Přepadnou-li tě v noci lupiči,
vezmou jen to, co budou chtít.
Přijdou-li na tvé hrozny česáči,
nechají aspoň paběrky. [b]
Jaké však bude tvé neštěstí!
6 Jak jen Ezaua vyplení!
Jak vyloupí jeho poklady!
7 Všichni tví spojenci
tě poženou až k hranicím;
ti, s kterými žiješ v pokoji,
tě podvedou a porazí;
ti, kteří tvůj chléb jídali,
na tebe léčku nastraží –
nebudeš mít ani ponětí!
8 Toho dne, praví Hospodin,
vyhubím z Edomu mudrce,
na Ezauově hoře rozum nezbude!
9 Tví hrdinové, Temane, zděsí se –
na Ezauově hoře každý zahyne!
Kvůli vraždění, 10 kvůli násilí
na Jákobovi, tvém bratrovi,
budeš zahalen do ostudy,
vyhlazen budeš navěky!
11 V ten den ses stranou postavil –
v den, kdy jeho vojsko zajali cizinci,
kdy do jeho bran vešli barbaři,
kdy o Jeruzalém losem házeli –
tehdys byl jako jeden z nich!
12 Nekochej se nad bratrem svým
v den jeho neštěstí!
Neraduj se nad judskými syny
v den jejich záhuby!
Nevychloubej se tolik
v den soužení!
13 Nevcházej do brány mého lidu
v den jejich pohromy!
Nekochej se jeho trápením
v den jeho pohromy!
Nesahej po jeho jmění
v den jeho pohromy!
14 Nestav se na rozcestí,
abys hubil ty, kdo utekli!
Nevydávej ty, kdo přežili,
v den soužení!
Hospodinův den
15 Blízko je Hospodinův den
proti všem národům. [c]
To, co jsi dělal, se stane tobě,
tvé činy se ti vrátí na hlavu.
16 Jako jste pili na mé svaté hoře,
tak budou věčně pít všechny národy.
Budou pít a pít až k zalknutí,
až zmizí, jako by nebyly.
17 Na hoře Sion však bude záchrana
a ta hora bude svatá.
Dům Jákobův pak získá zpět
svůj dědičný majetek.
18 Dům Jákobův pak bude ohněm
a Josefův dům plamenem,
dům Ezauův však bude strništěm.
Sežehnou ho a stráví jej –
v Ezauově domě nikdo nezbude!
Tak promluvil Hospodin.
19 Obyvatelé Negevu získají Ezauovu horu,
obyvatelé podhůří pak filištínský kraj;
získají také kraj Efraim a Samaří,
Benjamín pak získá Gileád.
20 Vojsko izraelských vyhnanců
obsadí Kanaán až po Sareptu
a Jeruzalémští vyhnanci v Sefaradu
obsadí města v Negevu.
21 Zachránění [d] vystoupí na horu Sion,
aby vládli nad Ezauovou horou.
A nastane království Hospodinovo.

The Coming Judgment on Edom
1 The vision of Obadiah.
Thus says the Lord God (A)concerning Edom
(B)(We have heard a report from the Lord,
And a messenger has been sent among the nations, saying,
“Arise, and let us rise up against her for battle”):
2 “Behold, I will make you small among the nations;
You shall be greatly despised.
3 The (C)pride of your heart has deceived you,
You who dwell in the clefts of the rock,
Whose habitation is high;
(D)You who say in your heart, ‘Who will bring me down to the ground?’
4 (E)Though you ascend as high as the eagle,
And though you (F)set your nest among the stars,
From there I will bring you down,” says the Lord.
5 “If (G)thieves had come to you,
If robbers by night—
Oh, how you will be cut off!—
Would they not have stolen till they had enough?
If grape-gatherers had come to you,
(H)Would they not have left some gleanings?
6 “Oh, how Esau shall be searched out!
How his hidden treasures shall be sought after!
7 All the men in your confederacy
Shall force you to the border;
(I)The men at peace with you
Shall deceive you and prevail against you.
Those who eat your bread shall lay a [a]trap for you.
(J)No[b] one is aware of it.
8 “Will(K) I not in that day,” says the Lord,
“Even destroy the wise men from Edom,
And understanding from the mountains of Esau?
9 Then your (L)mighty men, O (M)Teman, shall be dismayed,
To the end that everyone from the mountains of Esau
May be cut off by slaughter.
Edom Mistreated His Brother
10 “For (N)violence against your brother Jacob,
Shame shall cover you,
And (O)you shall be cut off forever.
11 In the day that you (P)stood on the other side—
In the day that strangers carried captive his forces,
When foreigners entered his gates
And (Q)cast lots for Jerusalem—
Even you were as one of them.
12 “But you should not have (R)gazed[c] on the day of your brother
[d]In the day of his captivity;
Nor should you have (S)rejoiced over the children of Judah
In the day of their destruction;
Nor should you have spoken proudly
In the day of distress.
13 You should not have entered the gate of My people
In the day of their calamity.
Indeed, you should not have [e]gazed on their affliction
In the day of their calamity,
Nor laid hands on their substance
In the day of their calamity.
14 You should not have stood at the crossroads
To cut off those among them who escaped;
Nor should you have [f]delivered up those among them who remained
In the day of distress.
15 “For(T) the day of the Lord upon all the nations is near;
(U)As you have done, it shall be done to you;
Your [g]reprisal shall return upon your own head.
16 (V)For as you drank on My holy mountain,
So shall all the nations drink continually;
Yes, they shall drink, and swallow,
And they shall be as though they had never been.
Israel’s Final Triumph
17 “But on Mount Zion there (W)shall be [h]deliverance,
And there shall be holiness;
The house of Jacob shall possess their possessions.
18 The house of Jacob shall be a fire,
And the house of Joseph (X)a flame;
But the house of Esau shall be stubble;
They shall kindle them and devour them,
And no survivor shall remain of the house of Esau,”
For the Lord has spoken.
19 The [i]South (Y)shall possess the mountains of Esau,
(Z)And the Lowland shall possess Philistia.
They shall possess the fields of Ephraim
And the fields of Samaria.
Benjamin shall possess Gilead.
20 And the captives of this host of the children of Israel
Shall possess the land of the Canaanites
As (AA)far as Zarephath.
The captives of Jerusalem who are in Sepharad
(AB)Shall possess the cities of the [j]South.
21 Then (AC)saviors[k] shall come to Mount Zion
To judge the mountains of Esau,
And the (AD)kingdom shall be the Lord’s.

1 The vision of Obadiah.
Edom Will Be Humbled
Thus says the Lord God (A)concerning Edom:
(B)We have heard a report from the Lord,
and a messenger has been sent among the nations:
“Rise up! Let us rise against her for battle!”
2 Behold, I will make you small among the nations;
you shall be utterly despised.[a]
3 (C)The pride of your heart has deceived you,
you who live in the clefts of the rock,[b]
in your lofty dwelling,
(D)who say in your heart,
“Who will bring me down to the ground?”
4 Though you soar aloft like the eagle,
though your nest is set among the stars,
from there I will bring you down,
declares the Lord.
5 If (E)thieves came to you,
if plunderers came by night—
how you have been destroyed!—
would they not steal only enough for themselves?
If (F)grape gatherers came to you,
would they not leave gleanings?
6 (G)How Esau has been pillaged,
his treasures sought out!
7 All your allies have driven you to your border;
those at peace with you have deceived you;
they have prevailed against you;
(H)those who eat your bread[c] have set a trap beneath you—
(I)you have[d] no understanding.
8 (J)Will I not on that day, declares the Lord,
destroy the wise men out of Edom,
and understanding out of (K)Mount Esau?
9 And your mighty men shall be dismayed, (L)O Teman,
so that every man from (M)Mount Esau will be cut off by slaughter.
Edom's Violence Against Jacob
10 (N)Because of the violence done to your brother Jacob,
shame shall cover you,
(O)and you shall be cut off forever.
11 (P)On the day that you stood aloof,
(Q)on the day that strangers carried off his wealth
and foreigners entered his gates
(R)and cast lots for Jerusalem,
you were like one of them.
12 (S)But do not gloat over the day of your brother
in the day of his misfortune;
(T)do not rejoice over the people of Judah
in the day of their ruin;
(U)do not boast[e]
in the day of distress.
13 (V)Do not enter the gate of my people
in the day of their calamity;
(W)do not gloat over his disaster
in the day of his calamity;
(X)do not loot his wealth
in the day of his calamity.
14 (Y)Do not stand at the crossroads
to cut off his fugitives;
do not hand over his survivors
in the day of distress.
The Day of the Lord Is Near
15 For (Z)the day of the Lord is near upon all the nations.
(AA)As you have done, it shall be done to you;
your deeds shall return on your own head.
16 (AB)For as you have drunk on (AC)my holy mountain,
so all the nations shall drink continually;
they shall drink and swallow,
and shall be as though they had never been.
17 (AD)But in Mount Zion there shall be those who escape,
and it shall be holy,
(AE)and the house of Jacob shall possess their own possessions.
18 (AF)The house of Jacob shall be a fire,
and the house of Joseph a flame,
and the house of Esau (AG)stubble;
they shall burn them and consume them,
(AH)and there shall be no survivor for the house of Esau,
for the Lord has spoken.
The Kingdom of the Lord
19 Those of (AI)the Negeb (AJ)shall possess (AK)Mount Esau,
and those of the Shephelah shall possess (AL)the land of the Philistines;
they shall possess the land of Ephraim and the land of (AM)Samaria,
and Benjamin shall possess Gilead.
20 The exiles of this host of the people of Israel
shall possess the land of the Canaanites as far as (AN)Zarephath,
and the exiles of Jerusalem who are in Sepharad
shall possess the cities of the Negeb.
21 (AO)Saviors shall go up to Mount Zion
to rule (AP)Mount Esau,
and (AQ)the kingdom shall be the Lord's.
