44 On the next Sabbath almost the whole city came together to hear the word of God. 45 But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy; and contradicting and blaspheming, they (A)opposed the things spoken by Paul. 46 Then Paul and Barnabas grew bold and said, (B)“It was necessary that the word of God should be spoken to you first; but (C)since you reject it, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, behold, (D)we turn to the Gentiles. 47 For so the Lord has commanded us:

(E)‘I have set you as a light to the Gentiles,
That you should be for salvation to the ends of the earth.’

48 Now when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and glorified the word of the Lord. (F)And as many as had been appointed to eternal life believed.

49 And the word of the Lord was being spread throughout all the region. 50 But the Jews stirred up the devout and prominent women and the chief men of the city, (G)raised up persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them from their region. 51 (H)But they shook off the dust from their feet against them, and came to Iconium. 52 And the disciples (I)were filled with joy and (J)with the Holy Spirit.

14 Now the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and (A)on them were the [a]names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. 15 And he who talked with me (B)had a gold reed to measure the city, its gates, and its wall. 16 The city is laid out as a square; its length is as great as its breadth. And he measured the city with the reed: twelve thousand [b]furlongs. Its length, breadth, and height are equal. 17 Then he measured its wall: one hundred and forty-four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of an angel. 18 The construction of its wall was of jasper; and the city was pure gold, like clear glass. 19 (C)The foundations of the wall of the city were adorned with all kinds of precious stones: the first foundation was jasper, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony, the fourth emerald, 20 the fifth sardonyx, the sixth sardius, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, and the twelfth amethyst. 21 The twelve gates were twelve (D)pearls: each individual gate was of one pearl. (E)And the street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass.

The Glory of the New Jerusalem

22 (F)But I saw no temple in it, for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. 23 (G)The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine [c]in it, for the [d]glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light. 24 (H)And the nations [e]of those who are saved shall walk in its light, and the kings of the earth bring their glory and honor [f]into it. 25 (I)Its gates shall not be shut at all by day (J)(there shall be no night there). 26 (K)And they shall bring the glory and the honor of the nations into [g]it. 27 But (L)there shall by no means enter it anything [h]that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s (M)Book of Life.

12 He who overcomes, I will make him (A)a pillar in the temple of My God, and he shall (B)go out no more. (C)I will write on him the name of My God and the name of the city of My God, the (D)New Jerusalem, which (E)comes down out of heaven from My God. (F)And I will write on him My new name.

33 Little children, I shall be with you a (A)little while longer. You will seek Me; (B)and as I said to the Jews, ‘Where I am going, you cannot come,’ so now I say to you. 34 (C)A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 (D)By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
