Ít-ra-en sẽ không trở về
4 Hỡi các bò cái Ba-san [a] trên núi Xa-ma-ri
hãy nghe lời nầy.
Các ngươi cướp đoạt của người nghèo
và chà đạp kẻ khốn cùng.
Rồi ngươi bảo chồng mình [b],
“Mang cái gì đến cho tôi uống!”
2 CHÚA hứa như sau:
“Thật như ta hằng sống,
sẽ đến lúc ngươi sẽ bị móc kéo đi,
và những gì còn lại của ngươi
sẽ bị mang đi bằng lưỡi câu.
3 Ngươi sẽ đi thẳng ra ngoài thành
qua các lỗ hổng trong tường,
rồi ngươi sẽ bị ném vào đống xác chết [c],”
CHÚA phán vậy.
4 Hãy đến thành Bê-tên mà phạm tội;
hãy kéo nhau đến Ghinh-ganh [d]
mà phạm tội thêm nữa.
Hãy dâng sinh tế ngươi mỗi sáng,
và cứ mỗi ba ngày lại mang đến
phần mười mùa màng của ngươi.
5 Hãy dâng bánh mì có men
làm của lễ cảm tạ,
và khoe khoang về của lễ tự nguyện
mình mang đến [e].
Vì hỡi Ít-ra-en,
đó là điều ngươi thích làm,
CHÚA là Thượng-Đế phán vậy.
6 “Ta mang đói kém đến
trong các thành ngươi,
và các thị trấn ngươi không đủ ăn,
nhưng ngươi không trở lại cùng ta,”
CHÚA phán vậy.
7 “Ta ngăn không cho mưa xuống
ba tháng trước mùa gặt.
Rồi ta cho mưa xuống thành nầy,
còn thành khác thì khô ráo.
Mưa xuống ruộng nầy, còn ruộng kia thì bị khô héo cằn cỗi.
8 Dân chúng kiệt quệ vì khát nước,
đi từ thành nầy sang thành khác tìm nước,
nhưng không tìm đủ nước uống.
Thế mà các ngươi cũng vẫn không trở lại cùng ta,”
CHÚA phán vậy.
9 “Ta khiến cho ngươi thất mùa
vì sâu và meo mốc.
Khi ruộng nương và vườn nho ngươi phát triển,
thì cào cào cắn phá cây vả và cây ô-liu ngươi.
Vậy mà ngươi vẫn không trở về cùng ta,”
CHÚA phán vậy.
10 “Ta sai đại nạn đến cho ngươi
như ta đã làm ở Ai-cập.
Ta dùng gươm giết các kẻ trai trẻ ngươi,
và cướp ngựa khỏi tay ngươi.
Ta khiến cho xứ ngươi hôi thối vì xác chết.
Nhưng ngươi vẫn không trở lại cùng ta,”
CHÚA phán vậy.
11 “Ta tiêu diệt một số các ngươi,
như tiêu diệt Xô-đôm và Gô-mô-rơ.
Ngươi như que củi đang cháy
được rút ra khỏi lửa,
Nhưng ngươi cũng không chịu trở về cùng ta,”
CHÚA phán vậy.
12 “Cho nên, hỡi Ít-ra-en,
đây là điều ta chắc chắn sẽ làm cho ngươi:
nên hỡi Ít-ra-en, hãy chuẩn bị
mà gặp Thượng-Đế ngươi.”
13 Ngài là Đấng tạo ra núi,
làm ra gió [f], và bày tỏ ý tưởng Ngài cho người ta biết.
Ngài biến bình minh ra bóng tối,
bước đi trên các núi non của đất.
Danh Ngài là Thượng-Đế Toàn-Năng.

4 Hear this word, ye kine of Bashan, that are in the mountain of Samaria, which oppress the poor, which crush the needy, which say to their masters, Bring, and let us drink.
2 The Lord God hath sworn by his holiness, that, lo, the days shall come upon you, that he will take you away with hooks, and your posterity with fishhooks.
3 And ye shall go out at the breaches, every cow at that which is before her; and ye shall cast them into the palace, saith the Lord.
4 Come to Bethel, and transgress; at Gilgal multiply transgression; and bring your sacrifices every morning, and your tithes after three years:
5 And offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving with leaven, and proclaim and publish the free offerings: for this liketh you, O ye children of Israel, saith the Lord God.
6 And I also have given you cleanness of teeth in all your cities, and want of bread in all your places: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the Lord.
7 And also I have withholden the rain from you, when there were yet three months to the harvest: and I caused it to rain upon one city, and caused it not to rain upon another city: one piece was rained upon, and the piece whereupon it rained not withered.
8 So two or three cities wandered unto one city, to drink water; but they were not satisfied: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the Lord.
9 I have smitten you with blasting and mildew: when your gardens and your vineyards and your fig trees and your olive trees increased, the palmerworm devoured them: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the Lord.
10 I have sent among you the pestilence after the manner of Egypt: your young men have I slain with the sword, and have taken away your horses; and I have made the stink of your camps to come up unto your nostrils: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the Lord.
11 I have overthrown some of you, as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and ye were as a firebrand plucked out of the burning: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the Lord.
12 Therefore thus will I do unto thee, O Israel: and because I will do this unto thee, prepare to meet thy God, O Israel.
13 For, lo, he that formeth the mountains, and createth the wind, and declareth unto man what is his thought, that maketh the morning darkness, and treadeth upon the high places of the earth, The Lord, The God of hosts, is his name.

God’s Punishments Have Not Reformed Israel
4 Hear this word, you (A)cows of Bashan, who are on the mountain of Samaria,
Who oppress the (B)poor,
Who crush the needy,
Who say to [a]your husbands, “Bring wine, let us (C)drink!”
2 (D)The Lord God has sworn by His holiness:
“Behold, the days shall come upon you
When He will take you away (E)with fishhooks,
And your posterity with fishhooks.
3 (F)You will go out through broken walls,
Each one straight ahead of her,
And you will [b]be cast into Harmon,”
Says the Lord.
4 “Come(G) to Bethel and transgress,
At (H)Gilgal multiply transgression;
(I)Bring your sacrifices every morning,
(J)Your tithes every three [c]days.
5 (K)Offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving with leaven,
Proclaim and announce (L)the freewill offerings;
For this you love,
You children of Israel!”
Says the Lord God.
Israel Did Not Accept Correction
6 “Also I gave you [d]cleanness of teeth in all your cities,
And lack of bread in all your places;
(M)Yet you have not returned to Me,”
Says the Lord.
7 “I also withheld rain from you,
When there were still three months to the harvest.
I made it rain on one city,
I withheld rain from another city.
One part was rained upon,
And where it did not rain the part withered.
8 So two or three cities wandered to another city to drink water,
But they were not satisfied;
Yet you have not returned to Me,”
Says the Lord.
9 “I(N) blasted you with blight and mildew.
When your gardens increased,
Your vineyards,
Your fig trees,
And your olive trees,
(O)The locust devoured them;
Yet you have not returned to Me,”
Says the Lord.
10 “I sent among you a plague (P)after the manner of Egypt;
Your young men I killed with a sword,
Along with your captive horses;
I made the stench of your camps come up into your nostrils;
Yet you have not returned to Me,”
Says the Lord.
11 “I overthrew some of you,
As God overthrew (Q)Sodom and Gomorrah,
And you were like a firebrand plucked from the burning;
Yet you have not returned to Me,”
Says the Lord.
12 “Therefore thus will I do to you, O Israel;
Because I will do this to you,
(R)Prepare to meet your God, O Israel!”

4 “Hear this word, (A)you cows of Bashan,
who are (B)on the mountain of Samaria,
(C)who oppress the poor, (D)who crush the needy,
who say to your husbands, ‘Bring, that we may drink!’
2 (E)The Lord God has sworn by his holiness
that, behold, the days are coming upon you,
(F)when they shall take you away with hooks,
(G)even the last of you with fishhooks.
3 (H)And you shall go out through the breaches,
each one straight ahead;
and you shall be cast out into Harmon,”
declares the Lord.
4 (I)“Come to Bethel, and transgress;

Israel Has Not Returned to the Lord

and send no rain on another city;

to drink water, and would not be satisfied;
(U)yet you did not return to me,”
declares the Lord.
9 (V)“I struck you with blight and mildew;
your many gardens and your vineyards,
your fig trees and your olive trees (W)the locust devoured;
(X)yet you did not return to me,”
declares the Lord.
10 “I sent among you a pestilence (Y)after the manner of Egypt;
I killed your young men with the sword,
and (Z)carried away your horses,[a]
and (AA)I made the stench of your camp go up into your nostrils;
