Förklaring av de tio budorden[a]

(6:1—27:8)

Första budet: Du ska inte ha några andra gudar

6 Detta är de bud, lagar och föreskrifter som Herren, er Gud, befallde mig att undervisa er om och som ni sedan ska följa i det land ni ska inta på andra sidan floden. 2 Om du och dina barn och barnbarn fruktar och lyder Herren, din Gud, och under hela ditt liv följer alla de bud och föreskrifter jag har gett dig, kommer du att leva länge. 3 Lyssna därför, Israel, och var noga med att följa dem så att allt går bra för dig och du blir ett stort folk i landet som flyter av mjölk och honung, så som Herren, dina förfäders Gud, har lovat.

Lär era barn att lyda Herren

4 Lyssna, Israel: Herren är vår Gud. Herren är en[b]. 5 Du ska älska Herren, din Gud, av hela ditt hjärta, av hela din själ och av hela din kraft! 6 Du ska ständigt tänka på[c] de bud som jag ger dig idag. 7 Du ska inpränta dem hos dina barn. Tala om dem både när du är hemma och när du är ute och går, när du lägger dig och när du stiger upp. 8 Bind dem som ett tecken på din hand och bär dem på din panna.[d] 9 Skriv dem på dörrkarmarna till ditt hus och på dina stadsportar.[e]

10 När Herren, din Gud, har lett dig in i det land han med ed lovade dina förfäder Abraham, Isak och Jakob, när han har gett dig stora, vackra städer som du inte har byggt, 11 välfyllda hus som du inte har fyllt, brunnar som du inte har grävt och vingårdar och olivträd som du inte har planterat, när du har ätit dig mätt, 12 se då till att du inte glömmer Herren, som ledde dig ut ur slaveriet i Egypten.

13 Det är Herren, din Gud, du ska frukta och tjäna och det är vid hans namn du ska avlägga ed. 14 Ni ska inte följa någon annan gud, ingen av grannfolkens gudar, 15 för Herren, din Gud, som bor ibland er är en svartsjuk Gud. Hans vrede kan väckas mot dig och utplåna dig från jordens yta. 16 Sätt inte Herren, er Gud, på prov så som ni gjorde i Massa.[f] 17 Lyd noga alla de bud, befallningar och föreskrifter som Herren, er Gud, har gett dig. 18 Gör det som är rätt och gott i Herrens ögon, så kommer allt att gå väl för dig och du kan tåga in och ta det goda land i besittning som Herren med ed lovade dina förfäder. 19 Han ska då driva ut alla dina fiender, så som han har sagt.

20 När ditt barn i framtiden frågar dig: ”Vad är meningen med alla de befallningar, föreskrifter och stadgar som Herren, vår Gud, har gett er?” 21 ska du berätta för honom: ”Vi var faraos slavar i Egypten och Herren ledde oss ut ur Egypten med väldig makt 22 och genom att inför våra ögon göra stora och fruktansvärda tecken och under mot Egypten och farao och allt hans folk. 23 Han förde oss ut ur Egypten och ledde oss hit för att ge oss det land som han med ed hade lovat våra förfäder. 24 Herren har befallt oss att följa alla dessa lagar och frukta honom, för att det ska gå oss väl och han ska kunna bevara oss vid liv, precis som han hittills har gjort. 25 Om vi följer hela denna lag som Herren, vår Gud, har befallt oss att hålla, kommer vi att vara rättfärdiga[g] inför honom.”

6 »Estos son los mandamientos, preceptos y normas que el Señor tu Dios mandó que yo te enseñara, para que los pongas en práctica en la tierra de la que vas a tomar posesión, 2 para que durante toda tu vida tú y tus hijos y tus nietos honréis al Señor tu Dios cumpliendo todos los preceptos y mandamientos que te doy, y para que disfrutes de larga vida. 3 Escucha, Israel, y esfuérzate en obedecer. Así te irá bien y serás un pueblo muy numeroso en la tierra donde abundan la leche y la miel, tal como te prometió el Señor y Dios de tus padres.

4 »Escucha, Israel: El Señor nuestro Dios es el único Señor.[a] 5 Ama al Señor tu Dios con todo tu corazón y con toda tu alma y con todas tus fuerzas. 6 Grábate en el corazón estas palabras que hoy te mando. 7 Incúlcaselas continuamente a tus hijos. Háblales de ellas cuando estés en tu casa y cuando vayas por el camino, cuando te acuestes y cuando te levantes. 8 Átalas a tus manos como un signo; llévalas en tu frente como una marca; 9 escríbelas en los postes de tu casa y en los portones de tus ciudades.

10 »El Señor tu Dios te hará entrar en la tierra que les juró a tus antepasados Abraham, Isaac y Jacob. Es una tierra con ciudades grandes y prósperas que tú no edificaste, 11 con casas llenas de toda clase de bienes que tú no acumulaste, con cisternas que no cavaste, y con viñas y olivares que no plantaste. Cuando comas de ellas y te sacies, 12 cuídate de no olvidarte del Señor, que te sacó de Egipto, la tierra donde viviste en esclavitud.

13 »Teme al Señor tu Dios, sírvele solamente a él, y jura solo en su nombre. 14 No sigas a esos dioses de los pueblos que te rodean, 15 pues el Señor tu Dios está contigo y es un Dios celoso; no vaya a ser que su ira se encienda contra ti y te borre de la faz de la tierra.

16 »No pongas a prueba al Señor tu Dios, como hiciste en Masá. 17 Cumple cuidadosamente los mandamientos del Señor tu Dios, y los mandatos y preceptos que te ha dado. 18 Haz lo que es recto y bueno a los ojos del Señor, para que te vaya bien y tomes posesión de la buena tierra que el Señor les juró a tus antepasados. 19 El Señor arrojará a todos los enemigos que encuentres en tu camino, tal como te prometió.

20 »En el futuro, cuando tu hijo te pregunte: “¿Qué significan los mandatos, preceptos y normas que el Señor nuestro Dios os mandó?”, 21 le responderás: “En Egipto nosotros éramos esclavos del faraón, pero el Señor nos sacó de allí con gran despliegue de fuerza. 22 Ante nuestros propios ojos, el Señor realizó grandes señales y terribles prodigios en contra de Egipto, del faraón y de toda su familia. 23 Y nos sacó de allí para conducirnos a la tierra que a nuestros antepasados había jurado que nos daría. 24 El Señor nuestro Dios nos mandó temerle y obedecer estos preceptos, para que siempre nos vaya bien y sigamos con vida. Y así ha sido hasta hoy. 25 Y, si obedecemos fielmente todos estos mandamientos ante el Señor nuestro Dios, tal como nos lo ha ordenado, seremos justos”.

The great commandment

6 Now these are the commandments, the regulations, and the case laws that the Lord your God commanded me to teach you to follow in the land you are entering to possess, 2 so that you will fear the Lord your God by keeping all his regulations and his commandments that I am commanding you—both you and your sons and daughters—all the days of your life and so that you will lengthen your life. 3 Listen to them, Israel! Follow them carefully so that things will go well for you and so that you will continue to multiply exactly as the Lord, your ancestors’ God, promised you, in a land full of milk and honey.

4 Israel, listen! Our God is the Lord! Only the Lord![a]

5 Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your being, and all your strength. 6 These words that I am commanding you today must always be on your minds. 7 Recite them to your children. Talk about them when you are sitting around your house and when you are out and about, when you are lying down and when you are getting up. 8 Tie them on your hand as a sign. They should be on your forehead as a symbol.[b] 9 Write them on your house’s doorframes and on your city’s gates.

10 Now once the Lord your God has brought you into the land that he swore to your ancestors, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give to you—a land that will be full of large and wonderful towns that you didn’t build, 11 houses stocked with all kinds of goods that you didn’t stock, cisterns that you didn’t make, vineyards and olive trees that you didn’t plant—and you eat and get stuffed, 12 watch yourself! Don’t forget the Lord, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. 13 Revere the Lord your God, serve him, and take your solemn pledges in his name! 14 Don’t follow other gods, those gods of the people around you— 15 because the Lord your God, who is with you and among you, is a passionate God. The Lord your God’s anger will burn against you, and he will wipe you off the fertile land. 16 Don’t test the Lord your God the way you frustrated him at Massah. 17 You must carefully follow the Lord your God’s commands along with the laws and regulations he has given you. 18 Do what is right and good in the Lord’s sight so that things will go well for you and so you will enter and take possession of the wonderful land that the Lord swore to your ancestors, 19 and so the Lord will drive out all your enemies from before you, just as he promised.

The next generation

20 In the future, your children will ask you, “What is the meaning of the laws,[c] the regulations, and the case laws that the Lord our God commanded you?” 21 Tell them: We were Pharaoh’s slaves in Egypt. But the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand. 22 Before our own eyes, the Lord performed great and awesome deeds of power[d] against Egypt, Pharaoh, and his entire dynasty. 23 But the Lord brought us out from there so that he could bring us in, giving us the land that he swore to our ancestors. 24 Then the Lord commanded us to perform all these regulations, revering the Lord our God, so that things go well for us always and so we continue to live, as we’re doing right now. 25 What’s more, we will be considered righteous if we are careful to do all this commandment before the Lord our God, just as he commanded us.

Love the Lord Your God

6 These are the commands, decrees and laws the Lord your God directed me to teach you to observe in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess, 2 so that you, your children and their children after them may fear(A) the Lord your God as long as you live(B) by keeping all his decrees and commands(C) that I give you, and so that you may enjoy long life.(D) 3 Hear, Israel, and be careful to obey(E) so that it may go well with you and that you may increase greatly(F) in a land flowing with milk and honey,(G) just as the Lord, the God of your ancestors, promised(H) you.

4 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.[a](I) 5 Love(J) the Lord your God with all your heart(K) and with all your soul and with all your strength.(L) 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts.(M) 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.(N) 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.(O) 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.(P)

10 When the Lord your God brings you into the land he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, to give you—a land with large, flourishing cities you did not build,(Q) 11 houses filled with all kinds of good things you did not provide, wells you did not dig,(R) and vineyards and olive groves you did not plant—then when you eat and are satisfied,(S) 12 be careful that you do not forget(T) the Lord, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.

13 Fear the Lord(U) your God, serve him only(V) and take your oaths(W) in his name.(X) 14 Do not follow other gods, the gods of the peoples around you; 15 for the Lord your God(Y), who is among you, is a jealous God and his anger will burn against you, and he will destroy you from the face of the land. 16 Do not put the Lord your God to the test(Z) as you did at Massah. 17 Be sure to keep(AA) the commands of the Lord your God and the stipulations and decrees he has given you.(AB) 18 Do what is right and good in the Lord’s sight,(AC) so that it may go well(AD) with you and you may go in and take over the good land the Lord promised on oath to your ancestors, 19 thrusting out all your enemies(AE) before you, as the Lord said.

20 In the future, when your son asks you,(AF) “What is the meaning of the stipulations, decrees and laws the Lord our God has commanded you?” 21 tell him: “We were slaves of Pharaoh in Egypt, but the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand.(AG) 22 Before our eyes the Lord sent signs and wonders—great and terrible—on Egypt and Pharaoh and his whole household. 23 But he brought us out from there to bring us in and give us the land he promised on oath to our ancestors. 24 The Lord commanded us to obey all these decrees and to fear the Lord our God,(AH) so that we might always prosper and be kept alive, as is the case today.(AI) 25 And if we are careful to obey all this law(AJ) before the Lord our God, as he has commanded us, that will be our righteousness.(AK)”
