Gudstjänst på utvald plats

12 Detta är de stadgar och föreskrifter som ni skall vara noga med att följa i det land, som Herren, dina fäders Gud, har gett dig till besittning, så länge ni lever på jorden. 2 Ni skall i grund förstöra alla de platser där de folk som ni fördriver har tillbett sina gudar, på höga berg och höjder eller under lummiga träd. 3 Ni skall bryta ner deras altaren, slå sönder deras stoder och bränna upp deras aseror i eld, hugga ner deras avgudabilder och utplåna deras namn från sådana platser.

4 Ni skall inte tjäna Herren, er Gud, på deras sätt, 5 utan den plats som Herren, er Gud, utväljer bland alla era stammar för att där fästa sitt namn, denna hans boning skall ni söka och dit skall du gå. 6 Dit skall ni föra era brännoffer och slaktoffer, ert tionde, och era händers bidrag, era löftesoffer och frivilliga offer och det förstfödda av er nötboskap och småboskap. 7 Och där skall ni äta inför Herrens, er Guds, ansikte och glädja er med ert husfolk över allt vad ni har förvärvat, det som Herren, din Gud, har välsignat dig med.

8 Ni skall då inte göra allt som vi i dag gör här, där var och en gör vad han själv anser vara rätt. 9 Ni har ju ännu inte kommit in i den vila och den arvedel som Herren, din Gud, vill ge dig. 10 Men när ni har gått över Jordan och bor i det land som Herren, er Gud, vill ge er till arvedel och när han har låtit er få ro för alla era fiender runt omkring och ni bor i trygghet, 11 då skall ni föra allt som jag befaller er till den plats som Herren, er Gud, utväljer till boning åt sitt namn: era brännoffer och slaktoffer, ert tionde, era händers bidrag och alla de utvalda löftesoffer som ni ger Herren löfte om. 12 Där skall ni glädja er inför Herrens, er Guds, ansikte med era söner och döttrar, tjänare och tjänarinnor och med leviten som bor inom era portar, för han har ju ingen egen lott eller arvedel med er.

13 Tag dig till vara så att du inte offrar dina brännoffer på vilken plats som helst. 14 Endast där, på den plats Herren utväljer inom en av dina stammar, skall du offra dina brännoffer, och där skall du göra allt vad jag befaller dig. 15 Däremot får du slakta och äta kött så mycket du önskar inom alla dina städer, allt efter den välsignelse som Herren, din Gud, ger dig. Både den som är oren och den som är ren får äta av det, som vore det kött av gasell eller hjort. 16 Men blodet får ni inte förtära. Det skall du hälla ut på marken som vatten.

17 Du får inte inom dina portar äta tionden av din säd, ditt vin och din olja och inte heller det förstfödda av din nötboskap och din småboskap eller något av de löftesoffer som du gett löfte om eller av dina frivilliga offer eller av dina händers bidrag. 18 På den plats som Herren, din Gud, utväljer skall du äta det inför Herrens, din Guds, ansikte tillsammans med din son och dotter, din tjänare och tjänarinna och med leviten som bor inom dina portar. Och du skall glädja dig inför Herrens, din Guds, ansikte över allt vad du har förvärvat. 19 Se till att du inte glömmer bort leviten så länge du lever i ditt land.

20 När Herren, din Gud, har utvidgat ditt område så som han har lovat dig, och du tänker så: "Jag vill äta kött", eftersom du har lust att äta kött, så må du äta kött så mycket du vill. 21 Om den plats som Herren, din Gud, utväljer till att där fästa sitt namn ligger för långt bort för dig, så må du enligt min befallning till dig slakta av den nötboskap och av den småboskap som Herren har gett dig och äta av det inom dina portar, så mycket du vill. 22 Men du skall äta det så som man äter kött av gasell eller hjort. Både den som är oren och den som är ren får äta av det. 23 Men se till att du inte förtär blodet, ty blodet är livet, och du får inte äta livet tillsammans med köttet. 24 Du får inte förtära det. Du skall hälla ut det på marken som vatten. 25 Du får inte förtära det, för att det må gå dig väl, och dina barn efter dig, när du gör det som är rätt i Herrens ögon.

26 Men de heliga gåvor som du vill bära fram, och dina löftesoffer, skall du ta med dig till den plats som Herren utväljer. 27 Av dina brännoffer skall du offra köttet och blodet på Herrens, din Guds, altare. Av dina slaktoffer skall blodet gjutas ut på Herrens, din Guds, altare. Men köttet må du äta.

28 Var noga med att lyda alla dessa bud som jag ger dig, för att det till evig tid må gå dig väl och dina barn efter dig, när du gör det som är gott och rätt i Herrens, din Guds, ögon.

Varning för avgudadyrkan

29 När Herren, din Gud, har utrotat de hednafolk som du nu kommer till för att fördriva, och du har drivit bort dem och bor i deras land, 30 se då till att du inte lockas till att följa deras seder, sedan de blivit röjda ur vägen för dig. Fråga inte efter deras gudar, så att du säger: "Hur dyrkade dessa folk sina gudar? Jag vill göra på samma sätt." 31 Så skall inte du göra när du tillber Herren, din Gud, ty allt som är avskyvärt för Herren och som han hatar, det har de gjort till sina gudars ära. Ja, till och med sina söner och döttrar bränner de upp i eld åt sina gudar.

32 Allt vad jag befaller er skall ni vara noga med att följa. Du skall inte lägga något till det och inte ta något därifrån.

12 Estas son las normas y preceptos que debéis cumplir cuidadosamente todos los días de vuestra vida, en la tierra que el Señor, el Dios de tus antepasados, os da en posesión.

2 Destruid completamente todos los lugares en los que las naciones que vais a conquistar han dado culto a sus dioses, sea en lo alto de los montes, en las colinas y bajo cualquier árbol frondoso. 3 Derribad sus altares, haced pedazos sus piedras votivas, quemad sus árboles sagrados, derribad las imágenes de sus dioses y haced desaparecer su recuerdo de esos lugares.

4 Con el Señor vuestro Dios obraréis de modo diferente. 5 Tan solo iréis a buscar al Señor vuestro Dios al lugar que él escoja de entre todas vuestras tribus para convertirlo en su morada y hacer que allí resida su nombre. 6 Allí llevaréis vuestros holocaustos y sacrificios, vuestros diezmos y contribuciones, vuestras ofrendas votivas y voluntarias, y también las primeras crías de tus vacas y ovejas. 7 Allí, en presencia del Señor vuestro Dios, vosotros y vuestras familias comeréis y haréis fiesta por los frutos de vuestro trabajo con que el Señor tu Dios te haya bendecido.

8 Allí no haréis lo que ahora hacemos aquí, donde cada uno hace lo que mejor le parece, 9 porque todavía no habéis llegado al lugar de descanso, a la herencia que el Señor tu Dios te da. 10 Pero una vez que hayáis cruzado el Jordán y viváis en la tierra que el Señor vuestro Dios os da en herencia, él os mantendrá a salvo de los enemigos que os rodean, y viviréis tranquilos. 11 Y al llegar al lugar que el Señor vuestro Dios escoja como morada de su nombre, llevaréis allí todo lo que os he ordenado: vuestros holocaustos y vuestros sacrificios, vuestros diezmos y vuestras contribuciones, junto con las ofrendas más selectas de vuestras posesiones que le hayáis prometido al Señor. 12 Y haréis fiesta en presencia del Señor vuestro Dios, vosotros, vuestros hijos e hijas, vuestros siervos y siervas, y también el levita que vive en vuestras ciudades, ya que él no recibió parte o herencia con vosotros.

13 Ten cuidado de no ofrecer sacrificios allá donde te apetezca. 14 Tus holocaustos los ofrecerás únicamente en el lugar escogido por el Señor en una de las tribus. Solo allí harás todo lo que yo te ordeno.

15 Sin embargo, eres libre de matar animales y comer carne en cualquiera de tus ciudades, en la medida de los bienes que el Señor tu Dios te haya dado. Podrán comerla el puro y el impuro, como si se tratase de gacela o ciervo. 16 Pero no comeréis la sangre, sino que la derramarás en la tierra, como el agua.

17 No podrás comer en tus ciudades el diezmo de tu trigo, de tu vino y de tu aceite, ni las primeras crías de tus vacas y de tus ovejas, ni lo que hayas prometido con voto, ni tus ofrendas voluntarias ni tus contribuciones, 18 sino que lo comerás en presencia del Señor tu Dios, en el lugar que él escoja. Así también lo harán tu hijo y tu hija, tu siervo y tu sierva, y el levita que vive en tus ciudades. Te regocijarás ante el Señor tu Dios por el fruto de tu trabajo. 19 Ten cuidado de no desamparar jamás al levita mientras vivas en tu tierra.

20 Cuando el Señor tu Dios ensanche tu territorio, como te ha prometido, si sientes deseos de comer carne, podrás comerla siempre que te apetezca. 21 Si el lugar que el Señor tu Dios escogió como morada de su nombre queda demasiado lejos de donde tú resides, podrás matar tanto vacas como ovejas de las que te dé el Señor, y comer en tu ciudad toda la carne que te apetezca. Pero hazlo tal como él te ha prescrito. 22 Lo mismo que se come la carne de gacela o ciervo, así la comerás. Podrá comerla tanto el puro como el impuro. 23 Pero de ninguna manera comas la sangre, porque la sangre es la vida, y no debes comer la vida al comer la carne. 24 No comerás, pues, la sangre sino que debes derramarla en tierra como el agua. 25 Si lo haces así, seréis dichosos tú y tus hijos después de ti, porque habréis actuado del modo que agrada al Señor. 26 Al lugar que el Señor haya escogido, llevarás sólo las cosas que hayas consagrado y las que ofrezcas como voto. 27 Allí ofrecerás tus holocaustos: la carne y la sangre, sobre el altar del Señor tu Dios. Comerás la carne, pero la sangre la derramarás sobre el altar del Señor tu Dios.

28 Cumple escrupulosamente todo esto que te mando y haz aquello que agrada y place al Señor tu Dios. Así seréis dichosos para siempre tú y tus hijos después de ti.

Advertencia contra los cultos cananeos

29 Cuando el Señor tu Dios haya aniquilado ante ti las naciones que estás a punto de conquistar, cuando las hayas despojado y tú ya estés asentado allí 30 después de haberlas aniquilado, ten mucho cuidado de no caer en la trampa de imitar su ejemplo e interesarte por sus dioses averiguando cómo les rendían culto para hacer tú lo mismo. 31 No los imites cuando rindas culto al Señor tu Dios. Nada hay más odioso y abominable para el Señor que lo que hacían esos pueblos en los cultos a sus dioses, pues llegaban al extremo de sacrificar a sus hijos e hijas en el fuego.

The One Place of Worship

12 These are the decrees(A) and laws you must be careful to follow in the land that the Lord, the God of your ancestors, has given you to possess—as long as you live in the land.(B) 2 Destroy completely all the places on the high mountains,(C) on the hills and under every spreading tree,(D) where the nations you are dispossessing worship their gods. 3 Break down their altars, smash(E) their sacred stones and burn(F) their Asherah(G) poles in the fire; cut down the idols of their gods and wipe out their names(H) from those places.

4 You must not worship the Lord your God in their way.(I) 5 But you are to seek the place the Lord your God will choose from among all your tribes to put his Name(J) there for his dwelling.(K) To that place you must go; 6 there bring your burnt offerings and sacrifices, your tithes(L) and special gifts, what you have vowed(M) to give and your freewill offerings, and the firstborn of your herds and flocks.(N) 7 There, in the presence(O) of the Lord your God, you and your families shall eat and shall rejoice(P) in everything you have put your hand to, because the Lord your God has blessed you.

8 You are not to do as we do here today, everyone doing as they see fit,(Q) 9 since you have not yet reached the resting place(R) and the inheritance(S) the Lord your God is giving you. 10 But you will cross the Jordan and settle in the land the Lord your God is giving(T) you as an inheritance, and he will give you rest(U) from all your enemies around you so that you will live in safety. 11 Then to the place the Lord your God will choose as a dwelling for his Name(V)—there you are to bring everything I command you: your burnt offerings and sacrifices, your tithes and special gifts, and all the choice possessions you have vowed to the Lord.(W) 12 And there rejoice(X) before the Lord your God—you, your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, and the Levites(Y) from your towns who have no allotment or inheritance(Z) of their own. 13 Be careful not to sacrifice your burnt offerings anywhere you please.(AA) 14 Offer them only at the place the Lord will choose(AB) in one of your tribes, and there observe everything I command you.

15 Nevertheless, you may slaughter your animals in any of your towns and eat as much of the meat as you want, as if it were gazelle or deer,(AC) according to the blessing the Lord your God gives you. Both the ceremonially unclean and the clean may eat it. 16 But you must not eat the blood;(AD) pour(AE) it out on the ground like water.(AF) 17 You must not eat in your own towns the tithe(AG) of your grain and new wine and olive oil,(AH) or the firstborn of your herds and flocks, or whatever you have vowed to give,(AI) or your freewill offerings or special gifts.(AJ) 18 Instead, you are to eat(AK) them in the presence of the Lord your God at the place the Lord your God will choose(AL)—you, your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, and the Levites from your towns—and you are to rejoice(AM) before the Lord your God in everything you put your hand to. 19 Be careful not to neglect the Levites(AN) as long as you live in your land.(AO)

20 When the Lord your God has enlarged your territory(AP) as he promised(AQ) you, and you crave meat(AR) and say, “I would like some meat,” then you may eat as much of it as you want. 21 If the place where the Lord your God chooses to put his Name(AS) is too far away from you, you may slaughter animals from the herds and flocks the Lord has given you, as I have commanded you, and in your own towns you may eat as much of them as you want.(AT) 22 Eat them as you would gazelle or deer.(AU) Both the ceremonially unclean and the clean may eat. 23 But be sure you do not eat the blood,(AV) because the blood is the life, and you must not eat the life with the meat.(AW) 24 You must not eat the blood; pour it out on the ground like water.(AX) 25 Do not eat it, so that it may go well(AY) with you and your children after you, because you will be doing what is right(AZ) in the eyes of the Lord.

26 But take your consecrated things and whatever you have vowed to give,(BA) and go to the place the Lord will choose. 27 Present your burnt offerings(BB) on the altar of the Lord your God, both the meat and the blood. The blood of your sacrifices must be poured beside the altar of the Lord your God, but you may eat(BC) the meat. 28 Be careful to obey all these regulations I am giving you, so that it may always go well(BD) with you and your children after you, because you will be doing what is good and right in the eyes of the Lord your God.

29 The Lord your God will cut off(BE) before you the nations you are about to invade and dispossess. But when you have driven them out and settled in their land,(BF) 30 and after they have been destroyed before you, be careful not to be ensnared(BG) by inquiring about their gods, saying, “How do these nations serve their gods? We will do the same.”(BH) 31 You must not worship the Lord your God in their way, because in worshiping their gods, they do all kinds of detestable things the Lord hates.(BI) They even burn their sons(BJ) and daughters in the fire as sacrifices to their gods.(BK)

32 See that you do all I command you; do not add(BL) to it or take away from it.[a]
