Den stora försoningsdagen
16 (A) Herren talade till Mose efter att Arons båda söner hade dött, de som dog när de trädde fram inför Herrens ansikte. 2 (B) Och Herren sade till Mose: Säg till din bror Aron att han inte när som helst får gå in i helgedomen innanför förhänget framför nådastolen[a] på arken, så att han inte dör. För jag kommer att uppenbara mig i molnet över nådastolen.
3 (C) Detta ska Aron ha med sig när han går in i helgedomen: en ungtjur till syndoffer och en bagge till brännoffer. 4 Han ska ta på sig en helig tunika av linne[b] och ha byxor av linne på sin kropp, och han ska spänna på sig ett bälte av linne och vira en turban av linne om huvudet. Detta är de heliga kläderna, och innan han tar dem på sig ska han bada sin kropp i vatten. 5 Av israeliternas församling ska han ta emot två bockar till syndoffer och en bagge till brännoffer.
6 Och Aron ska föra fram sin egen syndoffertjur och bringa försoning för sig själv[c] och sitt hus.
7 Sedan ska han ta de två bockarna och ställa dem inför Herrens ansikte, vid ingången till uppenbarelsetältet. 8 Aron ska dra lott om de båda bockarna: en lott för Herren och en lott för att ta bort synden.[d]
9 Den bock som lotten bestämmer åt Herren ska Aron föra fram och offra till syndoffer.
10 Men den bock som lotten bestämmer för att ta bort synden ska ställas levande inför Herrens ansikte, för att försoning ska bringas genom honom. Och sedan ska han sändas i väg ut i öknen för att ta bort synden.
11 Aron ska föra fram sin syndoffertjur och bringa försoning för sig själv och sitt hus. Han ska slakta sin syndoffertjur. 12 (D) Sedan ska han ta ett fyrfat, fullt med glöd från altaret som står inför Herrens ansikte. Han ska fylla sina händer med krossad, väldoftande rökelse och bära in det innanför förhänget. 13 Han ska lägga rökelsen på elden inför Herren, så att ett moln av rökelse täcker nådastolen över vittnesbördet. Då ska han inte dö. 14 (E) Och han ska ta av tjurens blod och stänka det med sitt finger framtill på nådastolen. Sju gånger ska han stänka blodet framför nådastolen med sitt finger.
15 Sedan ska han slakta folkets syndofferbock och bära in dess blod innanför förhänget, och han ska göra med blodet som han gjorde med tjurens blod. Han ska stänka det på nådastolen och framför nådastolen. 16 Så ska han bringa försoning för helgedomen och rena den från Israels barns orenheter och brott, från alla deras synder. På samma sätt ska han göra med uppenbarelsetältet, som har sin plats hos dem mitt ibland deras orenheter. 17 (F) Ingen människa får vara i uppenbarelsetältet från det att han går in för att bringa försoning i helgedomen tills han går ut. Så ska han bringa försoning för sig själv och sitt hus och för Israels hela församling.
18 (G) Sedan ska han gå ut till altaret som står inför Herrens ansikte och bringa försoning för det. Han ska ta av tjurens blod och av bockens blod och stryka på altarets horn runt omkring, 19 och han ska stänka av blodet på altaret med sitt finger sju gånger och rena och helga det från Israels barns orenheter.
20 När Aron har fullbordat försoningen för helgedomen, uppenbarelsetältet och altaret, ska han föra fram den levande bocken. 21 Och Aron ska lägga båda händerna på den levande bockens huvud och bekänna över honom Israels barns alla missgärningar, alla deras brott och alla deras synder. Han ska lägga dem på bockens huvud och sedan sända i väg den ut i öknen genom en man som hålls redo för det. 22 Bocken ska bära alla deras missgärningar på sig ut i ödemarken, och man ska släppa bocken ute i öknen.
23 Sedan ska Aron gå in i uppenbarelsetältet och ta av sig linnekläderna, som han hade klätt sig i när han gick in i helgedomen, och han ska lämna dem där. 24 Han ska bada sin kropp i vatten på en helig plats och ta på sig sina vanliga kläder. Sedan ska han gå ut och offra sitt eget brännoffer och folkets brännoffer och bringa försoning för sig och för folket. 25 Fettet av syndofferdjuret ska han bränna på altaret. 26 Och den som sände i väg bocken för att ta bort synden ska tvätta sina kläder och bada sin kropp i vatten. Därefter får han komma in i lägret.
27 (H) Syndoffertjuren och syndofferbocken vars blod bars in för att bringa försoning i helgedomen ska föras bort utanför lägret[e], och man ska bränna upp dem i eld med deras hud, kött och orenhet. 28 Den som bränner upp det ska tvätta sina kläder och bada sin kropp i vatten. Därefter får han komma in i lägret.
29 (I) Detta ska för er vara en evig stadga: I sjunde månaden, på tionde dagen[f] i månaden, ska ni fasta och inte utföra något arbete, varken den infödde eller främlingen som bor ibland er. 30 För på den dagen ska försoning bringas för att rena er. Från alla era synder ska ni renas inför Herrens ansikte. 31 En vilosabbat ska den vara för er, och ni ska fasta. Detta ska vara en evig stadga. 32 Den präst som har blivit smord och invigd till att vara präst i sin fars ställe ska bringa försoning. Han ska ta på sig linnekläderna, de heliga kläderna, 33 och bringa försoning för det allra heligaste och försoning för uppenbarelsetältet och altaret, och han ska bringa försoning för prästerna och allt folket i församlingen.
34 Detta ska för er vara en evig stadga, så att försoning bringas för Israels barn en gång om året för alla deras synder.
Och Aron gjorde så som Herren hade befallt Mose.

Joh 1:29 knyter an genom att beskriva Kristus som ”Guds lamm som tar bort världens synd”.

16 El Señor habló a Moisés después de la muerte de los hijos de Aarón, cuando se acercaron a la presencia del Señor y murieron(A). 2 Dijo el Señor a Moisés: Di a tu hermano Aarón que no en todo tiempo entre en el lugar santo detrás[a] del velo(B), delante del propiciatorio[b] que está sobre el arca, no sea que muera; porque yo apareceré en la nube sobre el propiciatorio[c](C). 3 Aarón podrá entrar en el lugar santo con esto: con un novillo para ofrenda por el pecado[d](D) y un carnero para holocausto. 4 Se vestirá con la túnica sagrada de lino, y los calzoncillos de lino estarán sobre sus carnes, y se ceñirá con el cinturón de lino y se cubrirá con la tiara de lino(E) (estas son vestiduras sagradas). Lavará, pues, su cuerpo[e] con agua y se vestirá con ellas(F). 5 Y tomará de la congregación de los hijos de Israel dos machos cabríos para ofrenda por el pecado(G) y un carnero para holocausto. 6 Entonces Aarón ofrecerá el novillo como ofrenda por el pecado, que es por sí mismo, para hacer expiación por sí mismo y por su casa(H). 7 Y tomará los dos machos cabríos y los presentará delante del Señor a la entrada de la tienda de reunión. 8 Y echará suertes Aarón sobre los dos machos cabríos, una suerte por el Señor, y otra suerte para el macho cabrío expiatorio[f]. 9 Aarón ofrecerá el macho cabrío sobre el cual haya caído la suerte para el Señor, haciéndolo ofrenda por el pecado. 10 Pero el macho cabrío sobre el cual cayó la suerte para el macho cabrío expiatorio[g], será presentado vivo delante del Señor para hacer expiación sobre él(I), para enviarlo como macho cabrío expiatorio[h] al desierto.
11 Entonces Aarón ofrecerá el novillo de la ofrenda por el pecado, que es por sí mismo(J), y hará expiación por sí mismo y por su casa(K), y degollará el novillo de la ofrenda por el pecado hecha[i] por sí mismo. 12 Y tomará un incensario(L) lleno de brasas de fuego de sobre el altar que está delante del Señor, y dos puñados[j] de incienso aromático molido(M), y lo llevará detrás[k] del velo. 13 Pondrá el incienso sobre el fuego delante del Señor, para que la nube del incienso cubra el propiciatorio que está sobre el arca del testimonio, no sea que Aarón muera(N). 14 Tomará además de la sangre del novillo(O) y la rociará con su dedo en el lado oriental del propiciatorio; también delante del propiciatorio rociará con su dedo siete veces de la sangre(P).
15 Después degollará el macho cabrío de la ofrenda por el pecado que es por el pueblo, y llevará su sangre detrás[l] del velo(Q) y hará con ella[m] como hizo con la sangre del novillo, y la rociará sobre el propiciatorio y delante del propiciatorio. 16 Hará, pues, expiación por el lugar santo a causa de las impurezas de los hijos de Israel y a causa de sus transgresiones(R), por todos sus pecados; así hará también con la tienda de reunión que permanece con ellos en medio de sus impurezas. 17 Cuando Aarón entre a hacer expiación en el lugar santo, nadie estará en la tienda de reunión hasta que él salga, para que haga expiación por sí mismo, por su casa y por toda la asamblea de Israel. 18 Entonces saldrá al altar que está delante del Señor y hará expiación por él, y tomará de la sangre del novillo y de la sangre del macho cabrío y la pondrá en los cuernos del altar(S) por todos los lados. 19 Y rociará sobre él de la sangre siete veces con su dedo(T), y lo limpiará, y lo santificará de las impurezas de los hijos de Israel.
20 Cuando acabe de hacer expiación por el lugar santo, la tienda de reunión y el altar, presentará el macho cabrío vivo. 21 Después Aarón pondrá ambas manos sobre la cabeza del macho cabrío y confesará sobre él todas las iniquidades de los hijos de Israel(U) y todas sus transgresiones, todos sus pecados, y poniéndolos sobre la cabeza del macho cabrío, lo enviará al desierto por medio[n] de un hombre preparado para esto. 22 El macho cabrío llevará sobre sí todas sus iniquidades a una tierra solitaria[o]; y el hombre soltará el macho cabrío en el desierto.
23 Entonces Aarón entrará en la tienda de reunión y se quitará las vestiduras de lino(V) que se había puesto al entrar en el lugar santo, y las dejará allí. 24 Lavará su cuerpo[p] con agua(W) en un lugar sagrado, se pondrá sus vestidos, y saldrá y ofrecerá su holocausto(X) y el holocausto del pueblo, y hará expiación por sí mismo y por el pueblo. 25 Luego quemará en el altar la grasa de la ofrenda por el pecado. 26 Y el que soltó el macho cabrío como macho cabrío expiatorio[q], lavará sus ropas y lavará su cuerpo[r] con agua(Y), y después entrará en el campamento. 27 Pero el novillo de la ofrenda por el pecado y el macho cabrío de la ofrenda por el pecado, cuya sangre fue llevada dentro del lugar santo para hacer expiación, serán llevados fuera del campamento, y quemarán en el fuego su piel, su carne y su estiércol(Z). 28 Y el que los queme lavará sus ropas y lavará su cuerpo con agua(AA), y después entrará en el campamento.
29 Y esto os será un estatuto perpetuo: en el mes séptimo, a los diez días del mes(AB), humillaréis vuestras almas y no haréis obra alguna(AC), ni el nativo ni el forastero que reside entre vosotros; 30 porque en este día se[s] hará expiación por vosotros para que seáis limpios; seréis limpios de todos vuestros pecados(AD) delante del Señor. 31 Os será día de reposo, de descanso solemne, para que humilléis vuestras almas; es estatuto perpetuo(AE). 32 Así el sacerdote que es ungido y ordenado[t] para ministrar como sacerdote en lugar de su padre hará expiación: se pondrá las vestiduras de lino, las vestiduras sagradas(AF), 33 y hará expiación por el santo santuario; hará expiación también por la tienda de reunión y por el altar. Hará expiación además por los sacerdotes(AG) y por todo el pueblo de la asamblea. 34 Tendréis esto por estatuto perpetuo para hacer expiación por los hijos de Israel, por todos sus pecados, una vez cada año(AH). Tal como el Señor lo ordenó a Moisés, así lo hizo.

Animals Pay the Price for Man’s Sin
16 The Lord spoke to Moses after the death of Aaron’s two sons, when they had come near the Lord and died. 2 The Lord said to Moses, “Tell your brother Aaron that he must not come just any time into the holy place inside the curtain, in front of the mercy-seat on the special box of the agreement or he will die. For I will show Myself in the cloud over the mercy-seat. 3 Only this way will Aaron go into the holy place, with a bull for a sin gift and a ram for a burnt gift. 4 He will put on the holy linen coat. And the linen under-clothing will be next to his body. He will be wearing the linen belt and the linen head-covering. These are holy clothing. He will wash his body in water and then dress himself. 5 He will take from the people of Israel two male goats for a sin gift and one ram for a burnt gift. 6 Then Aaron will give the bull as a sin gift for himself, to pay for the sins of himself and those in his house. 7 He will take the two goats and set them before the Lord at the door of the meeting tent. 8 Aaron will draw names for the two goats, choosing one for the Lord and the other to be sent away. 9 Then Aaron will bring the goat that was chosen for the Lord and give it as a sin gift. 10 But the goat that was chosen to be sent away will be brought alive before the Lord, for the taking away of sin. And it will be sent into the desert.
11 “Then Aaron will give the bull as the sin gift for himself, to pay for the sins of himself and those in his house. He will kill the bull as the sin gift for himself. 12 He will take a fire pan full of fire from the altar before the Lord, and enough fine, ground, sweet perfume to fill two hands. And he will bring it inside the curtain. 13 He will put the special perfume on the fire before the Lord so that the cloud of the special perfume covers the mercy-seat on the special box of the agreement or he will die. 14 He will take some of the bull’s blood and put it with his finger on the east side of the mercy-seat. And with his finger he will put some of the blood seven times in front of the mercy-seat.
15 “Then he will kill the goat as the sin gift for the people. He will bring its blood inside the curtain, and do the same with its blood as he did with the bull’s blood. He will put it on the seat and in front of the mercy-seat. 16 He will make the holy place, and also the meeting tent which is in the center of the camp, clean and pure because all the sins of the people make them unclean. 17 When he goes in to pay for sins in the holy place, no one will be in the meeting tent until he comes out. He will pay for the sins of himself, of those in his house, and of all the people of Israel. 18 Then he will go out to the altar before the Lord and make it clean and pure. He will take some of the bull’s blood and goat’s blood and put it on the horns of the altar on all sides. 19 With his finger he will put some of the blood on the altar seven times so it will be clean. He will set it apart from what is unclean among the people of Israel.
20 “When he finishes making the holy place, the meeting tent and the altar free from sin, he will give the live goat. 21 Aaron will lay both his hands on the head of the live goat, and tell of all the sins and wrong-doings of the people of Israel. He will lay them upon the head of the goat and send it away into the desert by the hand of a man ready to help. 22 The goat will carry upon itself all their sins to a land where no one lives. Then the man will let the goat go free there.
23 “Aaron will come into the meeting tent. He will take off the linen clothing he put on when he went into the holy place. And he will leave them there. 24 He will wash his body with water in a holy place and put on his clothes. Then he will come out and give his burnt gift and the people’s burnt gift, to pay for the sins of himself and the people. 25 He will burn the fat of the sin gift on the altar. 26 The man who let the goat carry away the sins will wash his clothes and wash his body with water. Then he may come among the tents. 27 The bull and the goat for the sin gift, whose blood was brought in to pay for sins in the holy place, will be taken away from the tents. Their skin, their flesh and their waste will be burned with fire. 28 Whoever burns them will wash his clothes and wash his body with water. Then he may come among the tents.
29 “This will be a Law forever for you. On the tenth day of the seventh month, you must get rid of your pride and not do any work, both those who live in the land and those who visit from another land. 30 For on this day your sin will be taken away and you will be clean. You will be made free from all your sins before the Lord. 31 It is to be a special Day of Rest for you, that you may be free from pride. It is a Law forever. 32 The chosen religious leader who is set apart to work as religious leader in his father’s place will pay for the sin. He will put on the holy linen clothing 33 and make the holy place, the meeting tent and the altar free from sin. He will make the religious leaders and all the people free from sin also. 34 This will be a Law forever for you. The people of Israel must be made free from all their sins once a year.” And Moses did what the Lord told him to do.

16 And the Lord spake unto Moses after the death of the two sons of Aaron, when they offered before the Lord, and died;
2 And the Lord said unto Moses, Speak unto Aaron thy brother, that he come not at all times into the holy place within the vail before the mercy seat, which is upon the ark; that he die not: for I will appear in the cloud upon the mercy seat.
3 Thus shall Aaron come into the holy place: with a young bullock for a sin offering, and a ram for a burnt offering.
4 He shall put on the holy linen coat, and he shall have the linen breeches upon his flesh, and shall be girded with a linen girdle, and with the linen mitre shall he be attired: these are holy garments; therefore shall he wash his flesh in water, and so put them on.
5 And he shall take of the congregation of the children of Israel two kids of the goats for a sin offering, and one ram for a burnt offering.
6 And Aaron shall offer his bullock of the sin offering, which is for himself, and make an atonement for himself, and for his house.
7 And he shall take the two goats, and present them before the Lord at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.
8 And Aaron shall cast lots upon the two goats; one lot for the Lord, and the other lot for the scapegoat.
9 And Aaron shall bring the goat upon which the Lord's lot fell, and offer him for a sin offering.
10 But the goat, on which the lot fell to be the scapegoat, shall be presented alive before the Lord, to make an atonement with him, and to let him go for a scapegoat into the wilderness.
11 And Aaron shall bring the bullock of the sin offering, which is for himself, and shall make an atonement for himself, and for his house, and shall kill the bullock of the sin offering which is for himself:
12 And he shall take a censer full of burning coals of fire from off the altar before the Lord, and his hands full of sweet incense beaten small, and bring it within the vail:
13 And he shall put the incense upon the fire before the Lord, that the cloud of the incense may cover the mercy seat that is upon the testimony, that he die not:
14 And he shall take of the blood of the bullock, and sprinkle it with his finger upon the mercy seat eastward; and before the mercy seat shall he sprinkle of the blood with his finger seven times.
15 Then shall he kill the goat of the sin offering, that is for the people, and bring his blood within the vail, and do with that blood as he did with the blood of the bullock, and sprinkle it upon the mercy seat, and before the mercy seat:
16 And he shall make an atonement for the holy place, because of the uncleanness of the children of Israel, and because of their transgressions in all their sins: and so shall he do for the tabernacle of the congregation, that remaineth among them in the midst of their uncleanness.
17 And there shall be no man in the tabernacle of the congregation when he goeth in to make an atonement in the holy place, until he come out, and have made an atonement for himself, and for his household, and for all the congregation of Israel.
18 And he shall go out unto the altar that is before the Lord, and make an atonement for it; and shall take of the blood of the bullock, and of the blood of the goat, and put it upon the horns of the altar round about.
19 And he shall sprinkle of the blood upon it with his finger seven times, and cleanse it, and hallow it from the uncleanness of the children of Israel.
20 And when he hath made an end of reconciling the holy place, and the tabernacle of the congregation, and the altar, he shall bring the live goat:
21 And Aaron shall lay both his hands upon the head of the live goat, and confess over him all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions in all their sins, putting them upon the head of the goat, and shall send him away by the hand of a fit man into the wilderness:
22 And the goat shall bear upon him all their iniquities unto a land not inhabited: and he shall let go the goat in the wilderness.
23 And Aaron shall come into the tabernacle of the congregation, and shall put off the linen garments, which he put on when he went into the holy place, and shall leave them there:
24 And he shall wash his flesh with water in the holy place, and put on his garments, and come forth, and offer his burnt offering, and the burnt offering of the people, and make an atonement for himself, and for the people.
25 And the fat of the sin offering shall he burn upon the altar.
26 And he that let go the goat for the scapegoat shall wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in water, and afterward come into the camp.
27 And the bullock for the sin offering, and the goat for the sin offering, whose blood was brought in to make atonement in the holy place, shall one carry forth without the camp; and they shall burn in the fire their skins, and their flesh, and their dung.
28 And he that burneth them shall wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in water, and afterward he shall come into the camp.
29 And this shall be a statute for ever unto you: that in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, ye shall afflict your souls, and do no work at all, whether it be one of your own country, or a stranger that sojourneth among you:
30 For on that day shall the priest make an atonement for you, to cleanse you, that ye may be clean from all your sins before the Lord.
31 It shall be a sabbath of rest unto you, and ye shall afflict your souls, by a statute for ever.
32 And the priest, whom he shall anoint, and whom he shall consecrate to minister in the priest's office in his father's stead, shall make the atonement, and shall put on the linen clothes, even the holy garments:
33 And he shall make an atonement for the holy sanctuary, and he shall make an atonement for the tabernacle of the congregation, and for the altar, and he shall make an atonement for the priests, and for all the people of the congregation.
34 And this shall be an everlasting statute unto you, to make an atonement for the children of Israel for all their sins once a year. And he did as the Lord commanded Moses.
