26 Ni skall inte göra er några avgudar och inte resa upp åt er någon avbild eller stod och inte heller i ert land sätta upp några stenar med inhuggna bilder för att tillbe dem. Ty jag är Herren, er Gud. 2 Mina sabbater skall ni hålla, och för min helgedom skall ni ha vördnad. Jag är Herren.

3 Om ni vandrar efter mina stadgar och håller mina bud och följer dem, 4 skall jag ge er regn i rätt tid, så att jorden ger sin gröda och träden på marken bär sin frukt. 5 Trösktiden skall hos er räcka till vinbärgningen, och vinbärgningen skall räcka till såningstiden, och ni skall ha bröd nog för att äta er mätta och ni skall bo trygga i ert land. 6 Och jag skall ge frid i landet, ni skall få ro och ingen skall förskräcka er. Jag skall göra slut på vilddjuren i landet, och inget svärd skall gå fram genom ert land. 7 Ni skall jaga era fiender framför er, och de skall falla för era svärd. 8 Fem av er skall jaga hundra framför sig, och hundra av er skall jaga tiotusen, och era fiender skall falla för era svärd. 9 Jag skall vända mig till er och göra er fruktsamma och föröka er, och jag skall upprätthålla mitt förbund med er. 10 Gammal gröda, som legat inne länge, skall ni ha att äta. Ni skall tvingas skaffa undan den gamla för den nya. 11 Och jag skall resa upp min boning mitt ibland er, och jag skall inte avvisa er. 12 Jag skall vandra mitt ibland er och vara er Gud, och ni skall vara mitt folk. 13 Jag är Herren, er Gud, som förde er ut ur Egyptens land, för att ni inte skulle vara slavar där. Jag har brutit sönder ert ok och låtit er gå med upprätt huvud.

Olydnadens följder

14 Men om ni inte hör på mig och inte gör efter alla dessa bud, 15 om ni föraktar mina stadgar och avvisar mina lagar, så att ni inte följer alla mina bud utan bryter mitt förbund, 16 då skall också jag handla på samma sätt mot er. Jag skall straffa er med förskräckelse, med tärande sjukdom och feber, så att era ögon försmäktar och er själ tynar bort. Och ni skall så er säd förgäves, ty era fiender skall äta den. 17 Jag skall vända mitt ansikte mot er, och ni skall bli slagna av era fiender. De som hatar er skall råda över er, och ni skall fly, även om ingen förföljer er.

18 Om ni trots detta inte lyssnar till mig, skall jag tukta er sjufalt värre för era synders skull. 19 Jag skall krossa er stolta makt och låta er himmel bli som järn och er jord som koppar. 20 Er möda skall vara förgäves, ty er jord skall inte ge sin gröda och träden i landet skall inte bära frukt.

21 Om ni ändå gör mig emot och inte vill lyssna på mig, skall jag slå er sjufalt värre, så som era synder förtjänar. 22 Jag skall sända över er vilddjur, som skall döda era barn och fördärva er boskap och minska ert eget antal, så att era vägar blir öde.

23 Om ni trots detta inte låter varna er av mig utan står mig emot, 24 skall också jag stå er emot och slå er sjufalt för era synders skull. 25 Jag skall låta er drabbas av ett hämndens svärd som skall hämnas mitt förbund, och ni skall samlas i städerna. Men där skall jag sända pest ibland er, och ni skall bli överlämnade i fienders hand. 26 Jag skall så fördärva ert livsuppehälle att ert bröd skall kunna bakas i en enda ugn av tio kvinnor. Brödet skall lämnas ut efter vikt, och när ni äter skall ni inte bli mätta.

27 Om ni trots detta inte lyssnar till mig utan står mig emot, 28 skall också jag i vrede stå er emot och tukta er sjufalt för era synders skull. 29 Ni skall tvingas äta era söners och döttrars kött. 30 Jag skall ödelägga era offerhöjder och utrota era solstoder. Jag skall kasta era döda kroppar på era eländiga avgudars döda kroppar, och jag skall visa er ifrån mig. 31 Jag skall göra era städer till ruiner och ödelägga era helgedomar, och jag skall inte mer med välbehag känna doften av era offer. 32 Jag skall själv ödelägga landet, så att era fiender som bor där skall häpna över det. 33 Men er skall jag sprida ut bland hednafolken och jag skall förfölja er med draget svärd. Så skall ert land bli en ödemark och era städer ruiner.

34 Då skall landet få gottgörelse för sina sabbater under hela den tid som det ligger öde och ni är i era fienders land. Ja, då skall landet vila och få gottgörelse för sina sabbater. 35 Hela den tid det ligger öde skall det hålla sabbat och få den vila det inte fick på era sabbater, då ni bodde där. 36 Och åt dem som blir kvar av er, skall jag ge försagda hjärtan där de är i sina fienders länder, så att de jagas på flykten av ett prasslande löv som rörs av vinden. De skall fly som om de flydde för svärd och falla, även om ingen förföljer dem. 37 De skall stupa på varandra som om de stupade för svärd, även om ingen förföljer dem. Ja, ni skall inte kunna hålla stånd mot era fiender. 38 Ni skall förgås bland hednafolken, och era fienders land skall förtära er. 39 De som blir kvar av er skall genom sin egen missgärning tyna bort i era fienders land. Också genom sina fäders missgärning skall de tyna bort, liksom dessa har gjort.

40 De skall bekänna den missgärning de själva har begått och den deras fäder har begått, att de har handlat trolöst mot mig och stått mig emot, 41 så att också jag måste stå dem emot och föra dem bort till deras fienders land. Ja, då skall deras oomskurna hjärtan tvingas att ödmjuka sig, och de skall få lida för sin missgärning. 42 Då skall jag tänka på mitt förbund med Jakob och jag skall också tänka på mitt förbund med Isak och på mitt förbund med Abraham. Och jag skall tänka på landet. 43 Ty landet skall överges av dem och få gottgörelse för sina sabbater genom att ligga öde, när folket är borta. Själva skall de få lida för sin missgärning, just därför att de förkastade mina lagar och därför att de avvisade mina stadgar. 44 Men, medan de är i sina fienders land, skall jag trots detta inte så förkasta eller avvisa dem, att jag förgör dem och bryter mitt förbund med dem, ty jag är Herren, deras Gud. 45 Nej, dem till godo skall jag tänka på förbundet med fäderna, som jag förde ut ur Egyptens land inför hednafolkens ögon, för att jag skulle vara deras Gud. Jag är Herren.

46 Dessa är de stadgar, domslut och lagar som Herren fastställde mellan sig och Israels barn på Sinai berg genom Mose.

Mandamentos, promessas e ameaças

26 Não fareis para vós ídolos, nem vos levantareis imagem de escultura nem estátua, nem poreis figura de pedra na vossa terra, para inclinar-vos a ela; porque eu sou o Senhor, vosso Deus. 2 Guardareis os meus sábados e reverenciareis o meu santuário. Eu sou o Senhor.

3 Se andardes nos meus estatutos, e guardardes os meus mandamentos, e os fizerdes, 4 então, eu vos darei as vossas chuvas a seu tempo; e a terra dará a sua novidade, e a árvore do campo dará o seu fruto. 5 E a debulha se vos chegará à vindima, e a vindima se chegará à sementeira; e comereis o vosso pão a fartar e habitareis seguros na vossa terra. 6 Também darei paz na terra; e dormireis seguros, e não haverá quem vos espante; e farei cessar os animais nocivos da terra, e pela vossa terra não passará espada. 7 E perseguireis os vossos inimigos, e cairão à espada diante de vós. 8 Cinco de vós perseguirão um cento, e cem de vós perseguirão dez mil; e os vossos inimigos cairão à espada diante de vós. 9 E para vós olharei, e vos farei frutificar, e vos multiplicarei, e confirmarei o meu concerto convosco. 10 E comereis o depósito velho, depois de envelhecido; e tirareis fora o velho, por causa do novo. 11 E porei o meu tabernáculo no meio de vós, e a minha alma de vós não se enfadará. 12 E andarei no meio de vós e eu vos serei por Deus, e vós me sereis por povo. 13 Eu sou o Senhor, vosso Deus, que vos tirei da terra dos egípcios, para que não fôsseis seus escravos; e quebrei os timões do vosso jugo e vos fiz andar direitos.

14 Mas, se me não ouvirdes, e não fizerdes todos estes mandamentos, 15 e se rejeitardes os meus estatutos, e a vossa alma se enfadar dos meus juízos, não cumprindo todos os meus mandamentos, para invalidar o meu concerto, 16 então, eu também vos farei isto: porei sobre vós terror, a tísica e a febre ardente, que consumam os olhos e atormentem a alma; e semeareis debalde a vossa semente, e os vossos inimigos a comerão. 17 E porei a minha face contra vós, e sereis feridos diante de vossos inimigos; e os que vos aborrecerem de vós se assenhorearão, e fugireis, sem ninguém vos perseguir. 18 E, se ainda com estas coisas não me ouvirdes, então, eu prosseguirei em castigar-vos sete vezes mais por causa dos vossos pecados. 19 Porque quebrantarei a soberba da vossa força; e farei que os vossos céus sejam como ferro e a vossa terra, como cobre. 20 E debalde se gastará a vossa força; a vossa terra não dará a sua novidade, e as árvores da terra não darão o seu fruto.

21 E, se andardes contrariamente para comigo e não me quiserdes ouvir, trazer-vos-ei praga sete vezes mais, conforme os vossos pecados. 22 Porque enviarei entre vós as feras do campo, as quais vos desfilharão, e desfarão o vosso gado, e vos apoucarão; e os vossos caminhos serão desertos.

23 Se ainda com estas coisas não fordes restaurados por mim, mas ainda andardes contrariamente comigo, 24 eu também convosco andarei contrariamente e eu, mesmo eu, vos ferirei sete vezes mais por causa dos vossos pecados. 25 Porque trarei sobre vós a espada, que executará a vingança do concerto; e ajuntados estareis nas vossas cidades; então, enviarei a peste entre vós, e sereis entregues na mão do inimigo. 26 Quando eu vos quebrantar o sustento do pão, então, dez mulheres cozerão o vosso pão num forno e tornar-vos-ão o vosso pão por peso; e comereis, mas não vos fartareis.

27 E, se com isto me não ouvirdes, mas ainda andardes contrariamente comigo, 28 também eu convosco andarei contrariamente em furor; e vos castigarei sete vezes mais por causa dos vossos pecados. 29 Porque comereis a carne de vossos filhos e a carne de vossas filhas comereis. 30 E destruirei os vossos altos, e desfarei as vossas imagens do sol, e lançarei o vosso cadáver sobre o cadáver dos vossos deuses; a minha alma se enfadará de vós. 31 E porei as vossas cidades por deserto, e assolarei os vossos santuários, e não cheirarei o vosso cheiro suave. 32 E assolarei a terra, e se espantarão disso os vossos inimigos que nela morarem. 33 E vos espalharei entre as nações e desembainharei a espada atrás de vós; e a vossa terra será assolada, e as vossas cidades serão desertas.

34 Então, a terra folgará nos seus sábados, todos os dias da sua assolação, e vós estareis na terra dos vossos inimigos; então, a terra descansará e folgará nos seus sábados. 35 Todos os dias da assolação descansará, porque não descansou nos vossos sábados, quando habitáveis nela. 36 E, quanto aos que de vós ficarem, eu meterei tal pavor no seu coração, nas terras dos seus inimigos, que o sonido duma folha movida os perseguirá; e fugirão como quem foge da espada; e cairão sem ninguém os perseguir. 37 E cairão uns sobre os outros como diante da espada, sem ninguém os perseguir; e não podereis parar diante dos vossos inimigos. 38 E perecereis entre as gentes, e a terra dos vossos inimigos vos consumirá. 39 E aqueles que entre vós ficarem se derreterão pela sua iniquidade nas terras dos vossos inimigos e pela iniquidade de seus pais com eles se derreterão.

40 Então, confessarão a sua iniquidade e a iniquidade de seus pais, com as suas transgressões, com que transgrediram contra mim; como também confessarão que, por terem andado contrariamente para comigo, 41 eu também andei com eles contrariamente e os fiz entrar na terra dos seus inimigos; se, então, o seu coração incircunciso se humilhar, e tomarem por bem o castigo da sua iniquidade, 42 também eu me lembrarei do meu concerto com Jacó, e também do meu concerto com Isaque, e também do meu concerto com Abraão me lembrarei, e da terra me lembrarei. 43 E a terra será desamparada por eles e folgará nos seus sábados, sendo assolada por causa deles; e tomarão por bem o castigo da sua iniquidade, em razão mesmo de que rejeitaram os meus juízos e a sua alma se enfastiou dos meus estatutos. 44 E, demais disto também, estando eles na terra dos seus inimigos, não os rejeitarei, nem me enfadarei deles, para consumi-los e invalidar o meu concerto com eles, porque eu sou o Senhor, seu Deus. 45 Antes, por amor deles, me lembrarei do concerto com os seus antepassados, que tirei da terra do Egito perante os olhos das nações, para lhes ser por Deus. Eu sou o Senhor.

46 Estes são os estatutos, e os juízos, e as leis que deu o Senhor entre si e os filhos de Israel, no monte Sinai, pela mão de Moisés.

Reward for Obedience

26 “‘Do not make idols(A) or set up an image(B) or a sacred stone(C) for yourselves, and do not place a carved stone(D) in your land to bow down before it. I am the Lord your God.

2 “‘Observe my Sabbaths(E) and have reverence for my sanctuary.(F) I am the Lord.

3 “‘If you follow my decrees and are careful to obey(G) my commands, 4 I will send you rain(H) in its season,(I) and the ground will yield its crops and the trees their fruit.(J) 5 Your threshing will continue until grape harvest and the grape harvest will continue until planting, and you will eat all the food you want(K) and live in safety in your land.(L)

6 “‘I will grant peace in the land,(M) and you will lie down(N) and no one will make you afraid.(O) I will remove wild beasts(P) from the land, and the sword will not pass through your country. 7 You will pursue your enemies,(Q) and they will fall by the sword before you. 8 Five(R) of you will chase a hundred, and a hundred of you will chase ten thousand, and your enemies will fall by the sword before you.(S)

9 “‘I will look on you with favor and make you fruitful and increase your numbers,(T) and I will keep my covenant(U) with you. 10 You will still be eating last year’s harvest when you will have to move it out to make room for the new.(V) 11 I will put my dwelling place[a](W) among you, and I will not abhor you.(X) 12 I will walk(Y) among you and be your God,(Z) and you will be my people.(AA) 13 I am the Lord your God,(AB) who brought you out of Egypt(AC) so that you would no longer be slaves to the Egyptians; I broke the bars of your yoke(AD) and enabled you to walk with heads held high.

Punishment for Disobedience

14 “‘But if you will not listen to me and carry out all these commands,(AE) 15 and if you reject my decrees and abhor my laws(AF) and fail to carry out all my commands and so violate my covenant,(AG) 16 then I will do this to you: I will bring on you sudden terror, wasting diseases and fever(AH) that will destroy your sight and sap your strength.(AI) You will plant seed in vain, because your enemies will eat it.(AJ) 17 I will set my face(AK) against you so that you will be defeated(AL) by your enemies;(AM) those who hate you will rule over you,(AN) and you will flee even when no one is pursuing you.(AO)

18 “‘If after all this you will not listen to me,(AP) I will punish(AQ) you for your sins seven times over.(AR) 19 I will break down your stubborn pride(AS) and make the sky above you like iron and the ground beneath you like bronze.(AT) 20 Your strength will be spent in vain,(AU) because your soil will not yield its crops, nor will the trees of your land yield their fruit.(AV)

21 “‘If you remain hostile(AW) toward me and refuse to listen to me, I will multiply your afflictions seven times over,(AX) as your sins deserve. 22 I will send wild animals(AY) against you, and they will rob you of your children, destroy your cattle and make you so few(AZ) in number that your roads will be deserted.(BA)

23 “‘If in spite of these things you do not accept my correction(BB) but continue to be hostile toward me, 24 I myself will be hostile(BC) toward you and will afflict you for your sins seven times over. 25 And I will bring the sword(BD) on you to avenge(BE) the breaking of the covenant. When you withdraw into your cities, I will send a plague(BF) among you, and you will be given into enemy hands. 26 When I cut off your supply of bread,(BG) ten women will be able to bake your bread in one oven, and they will dole out the bread by weight. You will eat, but you will not be satisfied.

27 “‘If in spite of this you still do not listen to me(BH) but continue to be hostile toward me, 28 then in my anger(BI) I will be hostile(BJ) toward you, and I myself will punish you for your sins seven times over.(BK) 29 You will eat(BL) the flesh of your sons and the flesh of your daughters.(BM) 30 I will destroy your high places,(BN) cut down your incense altars(BO) and pile your dead bodies[b] on the lifeless forms of your idols,(BP) and I will abhor(BQ) you. 31 I will turn your cities into ruins(BR) and lay waste(BS) your sanctuaries,(BT) and I will take no delight in the pleasing aroma of your offerings.(BU) 32 I myself will lay waste the land,(BV) so that your enemies who live there will be appalled.(BW) 33 I will scatter(BX) you among the nations(BY) and will draw out my sword(BZ) and pursue you. Your land will be laid waste,(CA) and your cities will lie in ruins.(CB) 34 Then the land will enjoy its sabbath years all the time that it lies desolate(CC) and you are in the country of your enemies;(CD) then the land will rest and enjoy its sabbaths. 35 All the time that it lies desolate, the land will have the rest(CE) it did not have during the sabbaths you lived in it.

36 “‘As for those of you who are left, I will make their hearts so fearful in the lands of their enemies that the sound of a windblown leaf(CF) will put them to flight.(CG) They will run as though fleeing from the sword, and they will fall, even though no one is pursuing them.(CH) 37 They will stumble over one another(CI) as though fleeing from the sword, even though no one is pursuing them. So you will not be able to stand before your enemies.(CJ) 38 You will perish(CK) among the nations; the land of your enemies will devour you.(CL) 39 Those of you who are left will waste away in the lands of their enemies because of their sins; also because of their ancestors’(CM) sins they will waste away.(CN)

40 “‘But if they will confess(CO) their sins(CP) and the sins of their ancestors(CQ)—their unfaithfulness and their hostility toward me, 41 which made me hostile(CR) toward them so that I sent them into the land of their enemies—then when their uncircumcised hearts(CS) are humbled(CT) and they pay(CU) for their sin, 42 I will remember my covenant with Jacob(CV) and my covenant with Isaac(CW) and my covenant with Abraham,(CX) and I will remember the land. 43 For the land will be deserted(CY) by them and will enjoy its sabbaths while it lies desolate without them. They will pay for their sins because they rejected(CZ) my laws and abhorred my decrees.(DA) 44 Yet in spite of this, when they are in the land of their enemies,(DB) I will not reject them or abhor(DC) them so as to destroy them completely,(DD) breaking my covenant(DE) with them. I am the Lord their God. 45 But for their sake I will remember(DF) the covenant with their ancestors whom I brought out of Egypt(DG) in the sight of the nations to be their God. I am the Lord.’”

46 These are the decrees, the laws and the regulations that the Lord established at Mount Sinai(DH) between himself and the Israelites through Moses.(DI)
