5 Dear friend, you are faithful in what you are doing for the brothers and sisters,[a](A) even though they are strangers to you.(B) 6 They have told the church about your love. Please send them on their way(C) in a manner that honors(D) God. 7 It was for the sake of the Name(E) that they went out, receiving no help from the pagans.(F) 8 We ought therefore to show hospitality to such people so that we may work together for the truth.
9 I wrote to the church, but Diotrephes, who loves to be first, will not welcome us. 10 So when I come,(G) I will call attention to what he is doing, spreading malicious nonsense about us. Not satisfied with that, he even refuses to welcome other believers.(H) He also stops those who want to do so and puts them out of the church.(I)
11 Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good.(J) Anyone who does what is good is from God.(K) Anyone who does what is evil has not seen God.(L)

5 Beloved, thou doest faithfully whatsoever thou doest to the brethren, and to strangers;
6 Which have borne witness of thy charity before the church: whom if thou bring forward on their journey after a godly sort, thou shalt do well:
7 Because that for his name's sake they went forth, taking nothing of the Gentiles.
8 We therefore ought to receive such, that we might be fellowhelpers to the truth.
9 I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not.
10 Wherefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he doeth, prating against us with malicious words: and not content therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and forbiddeth them that would, and casteth them out of the church.
11 Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.
