2 Timothy 2:14-19

An Unashamed Worker

¹⁴Remind them of these things, and solemnly ^(A)exhort them in the presence of God not to ^(B)dispute about words, which is useless and leads to the ruin of the listeners. ¹⁵Be diligent to ^(C)present yourself approved to God as a worker who ^[a]does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling ^(D)the word of truth. ¹⁶But ^(E)avoid ^(F)worldly and empty chatter, for ^[b]it will lead to further ungodliness, ¹⁷and their ^[c]talk will spread like ^[d]gangrene. Among them are ^(G)Hymenaeus and Philetus, ¹⁸men who have gone astray from the truth, claiming that ^(H)the resurrection has already taken place; and they are jeopardizing ^(I)the faith of some. ¹⁹Nevertheless, the ^(J)firm foundation of God stands, having this ^(K)seal: “^(L)The Lord knows those who are His;” and, “^(M)Everyone who names the name of the Lord is to keep away from wickedness.”

Approved and Disapproved Workers

¹⁴Remind them of these things, ^(A)charging them before the Lord not to ^[a]strive about words to no profit, to the ruin of the hearers. ¹⁵^(B)Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. ¹⁶But shun profane and ^[b]idle babblings, for they will ^[c]increase to more ungodliness. ¹⁷And their message will spread like cancer. ^(C)Hymenaeus and Philetus are of this sort, ¹⁸who have strayed concerning the truth, ^(D)saying that the resurrection is already past; and they overthrow the faith of some. ¹⁹Nevertheless ^(E)the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: “The Lord ^(F)knows those who are His,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of ^[d]Christ depart from iniquity.”
