Thanksgiving

I thank God, whom I serve with a clear conscience(A) as my ancestors did, when I constantly remember you in my prayers night and day.(B) Remembering your tears, I long to see you so that I may be filled with joy. I recall your sincere faith(C) that first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice(D) and now, I am convinced, is in you also.

Therefore, I remind you to rekindle the gift of God that is in you through the laying on of my hands.(E) For God has not given us a spirit of fear,(F) but one of power,[a](G) love,(H) and sound judgment.

Paul’s Advice for Timothy

I constantly thank my God—whom I serve[a] with a clear conscience, as my ancestors did—when I remember you in my prayers night and day, recalling your tears and longing to see you so that I can be filled with joy. I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first existed in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am convinced that this faith[b] also exists in you. For this reason, I am reminding you to fan into flames the gift of God that is within you through the laying on of my hands. For God did not give us a spirit of timidity but one of power, love, and self-discipline.[c]
