³^(A)Share in suffering as ^(B)a good soldier of Christ Jesus. ⁴No soldier ^(C)gets entangled in civilian pursuits, since his aim is to please the one who enlisted him. ⁵^(D)An athlete is not ^(E)crowned unless he competes according to the rules. ⁶It is ^(F)the hard-working farmer who ought to have the first share of the crops. ⁷Think over what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in everything.

³Endure suffering along with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. ⁴Soldiers don’t get tied up in the affairs of civilian life, for then they cannot please the officer who enlisted them. ⁵And athletes cannot win the prize unless they follow the rules. ⁶And hardworking farmers should be the first to enjoy the fruit of their labor. ⁷Think about what I am saying. The Lord will help you understand all these things.

³Join with me in suffering,^(A) like a good soldier^(B) of Christ Jesus. ⁴No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in civilian affairs, but rather tries to please his commanding officer. ⁵Similarly, anyone who competes as an athlete does not receive the victor’s crown^(C) except by competing according to the rules. ⁶The hardworking farmer should be the first to receive a share of the crops.^(D) ⁷Reflect on what I am saying, for the Lord will give you insight into all this.
