Morte di Is-Boset
4 (A)Quando il figlio di *Saul ebbe udito che Abner era morto a Ebron, gli caddero le braccia. Anche *Israele fu nello sgomento. 2 Il figlio di Saul aveva due uomini che comandavano bande armate. Uno si chiamava Baana, l'altro Recab; erano figli di Rimmon di Beerot, della tribú di *Beniamino, perché anche Beerot è considerata come appartenente a Beniamino, 3 sebbene i Beerotiti si siano rifugiati a Ghittaim, dove sono rimasti fino al giorno d'oggi. 4 *Gionatan, figlio di Saul, aveva un figlio storpio, il quale aveva cinque anni quando arrivò da Izreel la notizia della morte di Saul e di Gionatan. La balia lo prese e fuggí; in questa sua fuga precipitosa il bambino cadde e rimase zoppo. Il suo nome era Mefiboset.
5 I figli di Rimmon, il Beerotita, Recab e Baana, andarono dunque nelle ore piú calde del giorno in casa di Is-Boset, il quale stava facendo il suo riposo pomeridiano. 6 Penetrarono fino in mezzo alla casa, come volendo prendere del grano; lo colpirono al ventre e si diedero alla fuga. 7 Entrarono in casa mentre Is-Boset era steso sul letto nella sua camera: lo colpirono, lo uccisero, lo decapitarono; poi presero la sua testa e camminarono tutta la notte attraverso la pianura. 8 I due portarono la testa di Is-Boset a *Davide, a Ebron, e dissero al re: «Ecco la testa di Is-Boset, figlio di Saul, tuo nemico, il quale cercava di toglierti la vita; oggi il Signore ha fatto vendetta per il re, mio signore, su Saul e sulla sua discendenza». 9 Ma Davide rispose a Recab e a Baana suo fratello, figli di Rimmon il Beerotita, e disse loro: «Come è vero che vive il Signore il quale mi ha liberato da ogni angoscia, 10 quando venne colui che mi disse: “Ecco, Saul è morto!”, pensando di portarmi una buona notizia, io lo feci prendere e uccidere a Siclag, per ricompensarlo della sua buona notizia; 11 quanto piú adesso che uomini scellerati hanno ucciso un innocente in casa sua, sul suo letto, non dovrei chiedervi ragione del suo sangue sparso dalle vostre mani e sterminarvi dalla terra?». 12 Davide diede l'ordine ai suoi uomini, ed essi li uccisero; troncarono loro le mani e i piedi, poi li appesero presso lo stagno di Ebron. Presero quindi la testa di Is-Boset e la seppellirono nella tomba di Abner a Ebron.

Iş-Boşet este ucis
4 Când a auzit fiul lui Saul că Abner a murit la Hebron, mâinile i-au rămas fără(A) putere şi tot Israelul s-a(B) înspăimântat. 2 Fiul lui Saul avea doi capi peste cetele de război, dintre care unul se numea Baana, iar altul, Recab; erau fiii lui Rimon din Beerot, dintre fiii lui Beniamin. Căci Beerot(C) era privit ca făcând parte din Beniamin, 3 şi beerotiţii fugiseră la Ghitaim(D), unde au locuit până în ziua de azi. 4 Ionatan(E), fiul lui Saul, avea un fiu olog de picioare şi în vârstă de cinci ani când a venit din Izreel(F) vestea morţii lui Saul şi a lui Ionatan; doica lui l-a luat şi a fugit şi, fiindcă se grăbea să fugă, a căzut şi a rămas olog; numele lui era Mefiboşet. 5 Şi fiii lui Rimon din Beerot, Recab şi Baana, s-au dus în timpul zădufului zilei în casa lui Iş-Boşet, care îşi făcea somnul de amiază. 6 Au pătruns până în mijlocul casei, dându-se drept negustori de grâu, şi l-au lovit în pântece(G); apoi Recab şi Baana, fratele său, au scăpat. 7 Au intrat în casă pe când el era culcat pe pat, în odaia lui de dormit, l-au lovit, l-au omorât şi i-au tăiat capul. I-au luat capul şi au mers toată noaptea prin câmpie. 8 Au adus capul lui Iş-Boşet la David, în Hebron, şi au zis împăratului: „Iată capul lui Iş-Boşet, fiul lui Saul, vrăjmaşul tău, care voia să-ţi ia(H) viaţa; Domnul răzbună azi pe împărat, domnul meu, împotriva lui Saul şi împotriva neamului lui.” 9 David a răspuns lui Recab şi lui Baana, fratele său, fiii lui Rimon din Beerot: „Viu este Domnul(I), care m-a izbăvit din orice primejdie, 10 că pe cel ce a venit să-mi spună(J): ‘Iată, Saul a murit’ şi care credea că-mi aduce o veste bună, l-am prins şi l-am omorât la Ţiclag, ca să-l răsplătesc pentru ştirea lui, 11 şi, când nişte răi au ucis pe un om nevinovat în casa lui şi în patul lui, cu cât mai mult îi voi cere(K) sângele din mâinile voastre şi vă voi nimici de pe pământ.” 12 Şi David a poruncit(L) oamenilor lui să-i omoare; le-au tăiat mâinile şi picioarele şi i-au spânzurat la marginea iazului din Hebron. Au luat apoi capul lui Iş-Boşet şi l-au îngropat în mormântul(M) lui Abner, la Hebron.

Ish-Bosheth Murdered
4 When Ish-Bosheth son of Saul heard that Abner(A) had died in Hebron, he lost courage, and all Israel became alarmed. 2 Now Saul’s son had two men who were leaders of raiding bands. One was named Baanah and the other Rekab; they were sons of Rimmon the Beerothite from the tribe of Benjamin—Beeroth(B) is considered part of Benjamin, 3 because the people of Beeroth fled to Gittaim(C) and have resided there as foreigners to this day.
4 (Jonathan(D) son of Saul had a son who was lame in both feet. He was five years old when the news(E) about Saul and Jonathan came from Jezreel. His nurse picked him up and fled, but as she hurried to leave, he fell and became disabled.(F) His name was Mephibosheth.)(G)
5 Now Rekab and Baanah, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, set out for the house of Ish-Bosheth,(H) and they arrived there in the heat of the day while he was taking his noonday rest.(I) 6 They went into the inner part of the house as if to get some wheat, and they stabbed(J) him in the stomach. Then Rekab and his brother Baanah slipped away.
7 They had gone into the house while he was lying on the bed in his bedroom. After they stabbed and killed him, they cut off his head. Taking it with them, they traveled all night by way of the Arabah.(K) 8 They brought the head(L) of Ish-Bosheth to David at Hebron and said to the king, “Here is the head of Ish-Bosheth son of Saul,(M) your enemy, who tried to kill you. This day the Lord has avenged(N) my lord the king against Saul and his offspring.”
9 David answered Rekab and his brother Baanah, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, “As surely as the Lord lives, who has delivered(O) me out of every trouble, 10 when someone told me, ‘Saul is dead,’ and thought he was bringing good news, I seized him and put him to death in Ziklag.(P) That was the reward I gave him for his news! 11 How much more—when wicked men have killed an innocent man in his own house and on his own bed—should I not now demand his blood(Q) from your hand and rid the earth of you!”
12 So David gave an order to his men, and they killed them.(R) They cut off their hands and feet and hung the bodies by the pool in Hebron. But they took the head of Ish-Bosheth and buried it in Abner’s tomb at Hebron.
