⁴³ The Israelites answered the people of Judah, “We have ten ·tribes [^Lshares] in the ·kingdom [^Lking], so we have more ·right to [claim on] David than you do! ·But you ignored us! [^LWhy did you treat us with contempt?] ·We were [^LWeren’t we…?] the first ones to talk about bringing our king back!”

But the people of Judah spoke even more ·unkindly [harshly; fiercely] than the people of Israel.
