アムノンとタマル
13 ダビデの息子の一人、王子アブシャロムには、タマルという美しい妹がいました。ところが、タマルの異母兄に当たる王子アムノンが、彼女に深く思いを寄せるようになったのです。 2 アムノンはタマルへの恋に苦しみ、煩うまでになってしまいました。未婚の娘と若者とは厳格に隔てられていて、話しかける機会さえなかったのです。 3 ところが、アムノンには悪賢い友人が一人いました。ダビデの兄シムアの息子で、いとこに当たるヨナダブです。
4 ある日、ヨナダブはアムノンに尋ねました。「何か心配事でもあるのか。どうして、王子ともあろう者が、日に日にそれほどやつれていくのだ。」
アムノンは打ち明けました。「ぼくは妹のタマルを愛してしまった。」
5 「なんだ、そうか。では、よい方法を教えてやろう。床に戻って、仮病を使うのだ。父君のダビデ王が見舞いに来られたら、タマルをよこして食事を作らせてくださいと頼むといい。タマルのこしらえたものを食べればきっとよくなる、と申し上げるのだ。」ヨナダブはこう入れ知恵したのです。
6 アムノンは言われたとおりにしました。王が見舞いに来ると、「妹タマルをよこして、食事を用意させてください」とだけ願い出ました。 7 ダビデはうなずき、タマルに、「アムノンの住まいへ行き、何か手料理をごちそうしてやってくれ」と頼んだのです。 8 タマルはアムノンの寝室を訪れました。アムノンは、タマルが粉をこねてパンを作る姿をじっと見つめていました。タマルはアムノンのために、とびきりおいしいパンを焼き上げました。 9 ところが、それをお盆に載せてアムノンの前に差し出しても、口に入れようとしません。アムノンは召使たちに、「みんな、下がってくれ」と命じたので、みな部屋から出て行きました。 10 すると、彼はタマルに言ったのです。「もう一度、そのパンをこっちに運んで来て、食べさせてくれないか。」タマルは言われるままに、そばへ行きました。 11 ところが、目の前に近づいたタマルに、アムノンは、「さあ、タマル。おまえはぼくのものだ」と捕まえたのです。 12 彼女はびっくりして叫びました。「やめてください、お兄様！ こんなばかなこと、いけないわ。イスラエルでは、それがどれほど重い罪かご存じでしょう。 13 こんな辱しめを受けたら、私、どこにも顔出しできません。お兄様だって、国中の笑い者になります。どうしてもというのなら、今すぐにでも、お父様に申し出てください。きっと二人の結婚を許してくださるわ。」
14 しかし、アムノンはそれを聞こうともせず、力ずくでタマルを自分のものにしてしまったのです。 15 それから急に、彼はタマルに対して憎悪を抱くようになりました。それは、彼女に先に抱いた愛よりも激しいものでした。「さっさと出て行け！」アムノンはどなりました。 16 タマルは必死に言いました。「いけません！ 今、私を追い出したりなさったら、たった今なさったことより、もっと大きな罪を犯すことになります。」
しかし、アムノンは聞こうとはしませんでした。 17-18 召使を呼ぶと、「この女を追い出し、戸を閉めてくれ」と命じ、タマルを放り出しました。当時、未婚の王女は、みな袖のある長服を着ていましたが、 19 彼女はその服を裂き、頭に灰をかぶり、手を頭に置いて、泣きながら帰って行きました。
20 タマルの実の兄アブシャロムは、妹に問いただしました。「アムノンがおまえを辱しめたというのはほんとうか。落ち着きなさい。身内でのことだから、何も心配することはない。」それでタマルは、兄アブシャロムの住まいでひっそり暮らしていました。
21-22 王はこの一件を耳にし、烈火のごとく怒りました。アブシャロムは、このことについてはアムノンに何も言いませんでした。しかし心の中では、妹を辱しめたアムノンに、はらわたが煮えくり返るような思いでした。
アムノン殺害
23-24 それから二年が過ぎ、アブシャロムの羊の毛の刈り取りがエフライムのバアル・ハツォルで行われた時、彼は父と兄弟全員を、刈り取りの祝いに招くことにしました。
25 王は答えました。「いや、アブシャロム。われわれがみな押しかけたら、おまえに負担がかかりすぎる。」
アブシャロムがどんなに勧めても、ダビデは、「気持ちだけをありがたく受け取る」と言って断りました。
26 「父上においでいただけないのでしたら、名代として、アムノンをよこしてくださいませんか。」
「なに、アムノンだと？ またどうして、あれを。」
27 しかし、アブシャロムが熱心に頼むので、ついにダビデも承知し、アムノンも含めて、王子全員が顔をそろえることになりました。
28 アブシャロムは従者たちに命じました。「アムノンが酔うまで待つのだ。私が合図したら、あいつを殺せ。恐れるな。私の命令だから、勇気を出して、やり遂げるのだ！」
29-30 こうしてアムノンは、アブシャロムの従者の手で殺されたのです。驚いたのは、ほかの王子たちです。それぞれらばに飛び乗って逃げ帰りました。
彼らがまだエルサレムへ帰り着かないうちに、この知らせがダビデのもとに届きました。「アブシャロム様が、王子たちを皆殺しになさいました。生き残った方は一人もありません！」
31 王はびっくりして立ち上がり、服を引き裂き、地にひれ伏すようにその場に倒れ込みました。家臣たちも、恐れと悲しみに包まれて服を裂きました。 32-33 しかしそこへ、王の兄シムアの子ヨナダブが駆けつけて、真相を伝えました。「違います。王子たちがみな殺されたのではありません！ 殺されたのはアムノン王子だけです。アブシャロム様は、タマル様のことがあった日から、ずっとこの機会をねらっていたのでしょう。王子たちみなではなく、アムノン王子だけです。」
34 一方、アブシャロムは逃げました。エルサレムの城壁の上で見張っていた兵たちは、山沿いの道から町へ向かって来る一群を見つけました。 35 ヨナダブは王に言いました。「ごらんください！ 王子たちがこちらに向かっておいでになります。今、私が申し上げたとおりです。」
36 彼らは到着するや、声を上げて泣きました。王も家臣も共に泣きました。 37-39 一方アブシャロムは、アミフデの子であるゲシュルの王タルマイのもとに逃げ、そこに三年間とどまっていました。ダビデは、アムノンの死についてしばらく嘆き悲しんでいましたが、ようやくあきらめがついたのか、アブシャロムに会いたいと思うようになりました。

13 In the course of time, Amnon(A) son of David fell in love with Tamar,(B) the beautiful sister of Absalom(C) son of David.
2 Amnon became so obsessed with his sister Tamar that he made himself ill. She was a virgin, and it seemed impossible for him to do anything to her.
3 Now Amnon had an adviser named Jonadab son of Shimeah,(D) David’s brother. Jonadab was a very shrewd man. 4 He asked Amnon, “Why do you, the king’s son, look so haggard morning after morning? Won’t you tell me?”
Amnon said to him, “I’m in love with Tamar, my brother Absalom’s sister.”
5 “Go to bed and pretend to be ill,” Jonadab said. “When your father comes to see you, say to him, ‘I would like my sister Tamar to come and give me something to eat. Let her prepare the food in my sight so I may watch her and then eat it from her hand.’”
6 So Amnon lay down and pretended to be ill. When the king came to see him, Amnon said to him, “I would like my sister Tamar to come and make some special bread in my sight, so I may eat from her hand.”
7 David sent word to Tamar at the palace: “Go to the house of your brother Amnon and prepare some food for him.” 8 So Tamar went to the house of her brother Amnon, who was lying down. She took some dough, kneaded it, made the bread in his sight and baked it. 9 Then she took the pan and served him the bread, but he refused to eat.
“Send everyone out of here,”(E) Amnon said. So everyone left him. 10 Then Amnon said to Tamar, “Bring the food here into my bedroom so I may eat from your hand.” And Tamar took the bread she had prepared and brought it to her brother Amnon in his bedroom. 11 But when she took it to him to eat, he grabbed(F) her and said, “Come to bed with me, my sister.”(G)
12 “No, my brother!” she said to him. “Don’t force me! Such a thing should not be done in Israel!(H) Don’t do this wicked thing.(I) 13 What about me?(J) Where could I get rid of my disgrace? And what about you? You would be like one of the wicked fools in Israel. Please speak to the king; he will not keep me from being married to you.” 14 But he refused to listen to her, and since he was stronger than she, he raped her.(K)
15 Then Amnon hated her with intense hatred. In fact, he hated her more than he had loved her. Amnon said to her, “Get up and get out!”
16 “No!” she said to him. “Sending me away would be a greater wrong than what you have already done to me.”
But he refused to listen to her. 17 He called his personal servant and said, “Get this woman out of my sight and bolt the door after her.” 18 So his servant put her out and bolted the door after her. She was wearing an ornate[a] robe,(L) for this was the kind of garment the virgin daughters of the king wore. 19 Tamar put ashes(M) on her head and tore the ornate robe she was wearing. She put her hands on her head and went away, weeping aloud as she went.
20 Her brother Absalom said to her, “Has that Amnon, your brother, been with you? Be quiet for now, my sister; he is your brother. Don’t take this thing to heart.” And Tamar lived in her brother Absalom’s house, a desolate woman.
21 When King David heard all this, he was furious.(N) 22 And Absalom never said a word to Amnon, either good or bad;(O) he hated(P) Amnon because he had disgraced his sister Tamar.
Absalom Kills Amnon
23 Two years later, when Absalom’s sheepshearers(Q) were at Baal Hazor near the border of Ephraim, he invited all the king’s sons to come there. 24 Absalom went to the king and said, “Your servant has had shearers come. Will the king and his attendants please join me?”
25 “No, my son,” the king replied. “All of us should not go; we would only be a burden to you.” Although Absalom urged him, he still refused to go but gave him his blessing.
26 Then Absalom said, “If not, please let my brother Amnon come with us.”
The king asked him, “Why should he go with you?” 27 But Absalom urged him, so he sent with him Amnon and the rest of the king’s sons.
28 Absalom(R) ordered his men, “Listen! When Amnon is in high(S) spirits from drinking wine and I say to you, ‘Strike Amnon down,’ then kill him. Don’t be afraid. Haven’t I given you this order? Be strong and brave.(T)” 29 So Absalom’s men did to Amnon what Absalom had ordered. Then all the king’s sons got up, mounted their mules and fled.
30 While they were on their way, the report came to David: “Absalom has struck down all the king’s sons; not one of them is left.” 31 The king stood up, tore(U) his clothes and lay down on the ground; and all his attendants stood by with their clothes torn.
32 But Jonadab son of Shimeah, David’s brother, said, “My lord should not think that they killed all the princes; only Amnon is dead. This has been Absalom’s express intention ever since the day Amnon raped his sister Tamar. 33 My lord the king should not be concerned about the report that all the king’s sons are dead. Only Amnon is dead.”
34 Meanwhile, Absalom had fled.
Now the man standing watch looked up and saw many people on the road west of him, coming down the side of the hill. The watchman went and told the king, “I see men in the direction of Horonaim, on the side of the hill.”[b]
35 Jonadab said to the king, “See, the king’s sons have come; it has happened just as your servant said.”
36 As he finished speaking, the king’s sons came in, wailing loudly. The king, too, and all his attendants wept very bitterly.
37 Absalom fled and went to Talmai(V) son of Ammihud, the king of Geshur. But King David mourned many days for his son.
38 After Absalom fled and went to Geshur, he stayed there three years. 39 And King David longed to go to Absalom,(W) for he was consoled(X) concerning Amnon’s death.

14 将軍ヨアブは、アブシャロムに会いたがっている王の気持ちを察しました。 2-3 そこで、知恵者として評判の高いテコアの女を呼び寄せ、王に会ってもらいたいと頼みました。そして、どういうふうに話せばいいかを指示したのです。「王の前で喪中の女を装うのだ。喪服をまとい、髪を振り乱し、長いこと深い悲しみに打ちひしがれてきたふりをするのだ。」
4 女は王の前に出ると、床にひれ伏して哀願しました。
「王様！ どうぞ、お助けください！」
5-6 「いったい、どうしたのだ。」
「私は夫を亡くした女でございます。息子が二人おりましたが、それが野でけんかをしたのです。だれも仲裁に入ってくれませんで、片方が殺されてしまいました。 7 すると、親類中の者が寄ってたかって、残った息子を引き渡せと申すのです。兄弟を殺したような者は生かしておけないと言います。でも、そんなことになれば跡継ぎが絶えてしまい、夫の名も、この地上から消え去ってしまいます。」
8 「わかった。任せておきなさい。だれもあなたの息子に手出しできないように取り計らってやろう。」
9 「ありがとうございます、王様。こうしてお助けくださったことで、もし王様が責めをお受けになるようなことがありましたら、みな私の責任です。」
10 「そんな心配はいらない。あれこれ言う者がいれば私のもとへ連れて来なさい。二度とあなたに文句が言えないようにさせよう。」
11 「どうか、神にかけてお誓いください。息子には指一本ふれさせはしない、と。これ以上、血を見るのはたまりません。」
「神にかけて誓おう。あなたの息子の髪の毛一本も損なわれはしないと。」
12 「どうぞ、もう一つだけ、お願いを聞いてください。」
「かまわぬ。言ってみなさい。」
13 「王様、どうして私にお約束くださったことを、神の民全部に当てはめなさらないのですか。ただ今のようなお裁きによるなら、王様は罪ある者にされるのです。と申し上げるのは、追放されたご子息のお戻りを拒んでおられるからです。 14 私どもはみな、いつかは死ななければなりません。人のいのちは地面にこぼれた水のようなもので、二度と集めることはできません。もし王様が、追放中のご子息をお迎えになる道を講じなさるなら、神様の末長い祝福がありましょう。 15-16 このはしためが、息子のことでお願いに上がったのも、私と息子のいのちが脅かされていたからです。私は、『きっと王様は訴えを聞き入れ、私どもをイスラエルから消し去ろうとしている者の手から助け出してくださるに違いない。 17 そして安らかな生活を取り戻させてくださるだろう』と思ったのです。王様は神の使いのようなお方で、善悪を正しくお裁きになれると存じています。どうぞ、あなたの神、主があなたとともにおられますように。」
18 「一つだけ尋ねるが、よいか？」
「どうぞ、おっしゃってください。」
19 「おまえを差し向けたのはヨアブではないか。」
「王様。こうなれば、隠しようがありません。仰せのとおり、ヨアブ様が私を遣わし、どう申し上げればよいかまで指示してくださいました。 20 何とか事態をよくしようと、あの方の取り計らわれたことです。あなたは神の使いのように賢くあられ、また、この地上のすべてのことをご存じでいらっしゃいます。」
21 そこで王はヨアブを呼び寄せ、「わかった。行って、アブシャロムを連れ戻して来なさい」と命じたのです。 22 ヨアブは王の前にひれ伏し、祝福のことばを述べました。「今ようやく、あなたが私に情けをかけていてくださるとわかりました。この願いをお聞き入れくださったからです。」
23 ヨアブはゲシュルの地に駆けつけ、アブシャロムをエルサレムに連れ戻しました。 24 王は、「アブシャロムを自分の住まいに連れて行きなさい。ここに来させてはならない。私に会うことはならない」と申し渡しました。
25 さて、イスラエル中を探しても、アブシャロムほど男らしく顔立ちのよい人物はいませんでした。また彼ほど、そのことでほめそやされた者もいませんでした。 26 彼は年に一回、髪を刈りました。髪の重さが二百シェケル（約二・五キログラム）以上にもなり、そのままでは歩くのさえ難しかったからです。 27 彼には息子三人と娘一人がいて、娘の名はタマルといい、たいへん美しい少女でした。
28 アブシャロムは、二年間エルサレムにいながら、王には一度も会えませんでした。 29 そこで、ヨアブに仲立ちを頼もうとしましたが、ヨアブは来ようとしません。二度も呼びにやりましたが、それでも来ません。 30 しびれをきらしたアブシャロムは家来に、「私の畑と隣り合わせのヨアブの畑へ行き、大麦に火をつけろ」と命じました。彼らはそのとおりにしました。 31 驚いたのはヨアブです。飛んで来て、「なぜ、あなたの家来たちは、うちの畑を焼いたりするのです」と抗議しました。 32 アブシャロムは答えました。「実は頼みたいことがあるのだ。父上に尋ねてくれないか。会う気がないなら、どうして私をゲシュルから呼び戻したのか、と。こんなことなら、向こうにいたほうがましだった。とにかく、父上にお会いしたい。そのうえで、もし父上から罪を問われるなら、殺される覚悟はできている。」
33 ヨアブは、アブシャロムのことばを王に伝えました。そのかいあって、ついに王もアブシャロムを呼び寄せました。アブシャロムは王の前に出ると、ひれ伏しました。その彼に、ダビデは口づけをしました。

Absalom Returns to Jerusalem
14 Joab(A) son of Zeruiah knew that the king’s heart longed for Absalom. 2 So Joab sent someone to Tekoa(B) and had a wise woman(C) brought from there. He said to her, “Pretend you are in mourning. Dress in mourning clothes, and don’t use any cosmetic lotions.(D) Act like a woman who has spent many days grieving for the dead. 3 Then go to the king and speak these words to him.” And Joab(E) put the words in her mouth.
4 When the woman from Tekoa went[a] to the king, she fell with her face to the ground to pay him honor, and she said, “Help me, Your Majesty!”
5 The king asked her, “What is troubling you?”
She said, “I am a widow; my husband is dead. 6 I your servant had two sons. They got into a fight with each other in the field, and no one was there to separate them. One struck the other and killed him. 7 Now the whole clan has risen up against your servant; they say, ‘Hand over the one who struck his brother down, so that we may put him to death(F) for the life of his brother whom he killed; then we will get rid of the heir(G) as well.’ They would put out the only burning coal I have left,(H) leaving my husband neither name nor descendant on the face of the earth.”
8 The king said to the woman, “Go home,(I) and I will issue an order in your behalf.”
9 But the woman from Tekoa said to him, “Let my lord the king pardon(J) me and my family,(K) and let the king and his throne be without guilt.(L)”
10 The king replied, “If anyone says anything to you, bring them to me, and they will not bother you again.”
11 She said, “Then let the king invoke the Lord his God to prevent the avenger(M) of blood from adding to the destruction, so that my son will not be destroyed.”
“As surely as the Lord lives,” he said, “not one hair(N) of your son’s head will fall to the ground.(O)”
12 Then the woman said, “Let your servant speak a word to my lord the king.”
“Speak,” he replied.
13 The woman said, “Why then have you devised a thing like this against the people of God? When the king says this, does he not convict himself,(P) for the king has not brought back his banished son?(Q) 14 Like water(R) spilled on the ground, which cannot be recovered, so we must die.(S) But that is not what God desires; rather, he devises ways so that a banished person(T) does not remain banished from him.
15 “And now I have come to say this to my lord the king because the people have made me afraid. Your servant thought, ‘I will speak to the king; perhaps he will grant his servant’s request. 16 Perhaps the king will agree to deliver his servant from the hand of the man who is trying to cut off both me and my son from God’s inheritance.’(U)
17 “And now your servant says, ‘May the word of my lord the king secure my inheritance, for my lord the king is like an angel(V) of God in discerning(W) good and evil. May the Lord your God be with you.’”
18 Then the king said to the woman, “Don’t keep from me the answer to what I am going to ask you.”
“Let my lord the king speak,” the woman said.
19 The king asked, “Isn’t the hand of Joab(X) with you in all this?”
The woman answered, “As surely as you live, my lord the king, no one can turn to the right or to the left from anything my lord the king says. Yes, it was your servant Joab who instructed me to do this and who put all these words into the mouth of your servant. 20 Your servant Joab did this to change the present situation. My lord has wisdom(Y) like that of an angel of God—he knows everything that happens in the land.(Z)”
21 The king said to Joab, “Very well, I will do it. Go, bring back the young man Absalom.”
22 Joab fell with his face to the ground to pay him honor, and he blessed the king.(AA) Joab said, “Today your servant knows that he has found favor in your eyes, my lord the king, because the king has granted his servant’s request.”
23 Then Joab went to Geshur and brought Absalom back to Jerusalem. 24 But the king said, “He must go to his own house; he must not see my face.” So Absalom went to his own house and did not see the face of the king.
25 In all Israel there was not a man so highly praised for his handsome appearance as Absalom. From the top of his head to the sole of his foot there was no blemish in him. 26 Whenever he cut the hair of his head(AB)—he used to cut his hair once a year because it became too heavy for him—he would weigh it, and its weight was two hundred shekels[b] by the royal standard.
27 Three sons(AC) and a daughter were born to Absalom. His daughter’s name was Tamar,(AD) and she became a beautiful woman.
28 Absalom lived two years in Jerusalem without seeing the king’s face. 29 Then Absalom sent for Joab in order to send him to the king, but Joab refused to come to him. So he sent a second time, but he refused to come. 30 Then he said to his servants, “Look, Joab’s field is next to mine, and he has barley(AE) there. Go and set it on fire.” So Absalom’s servants set the field on fire.
31 Then Joab did go to Absalom’s house, and he said to him, “Why have your servants set my field on fire?(AF)”
32 Absalom said to Joab, “Look, I sent word to you and said, ‘Come here so I can send you to the king to ask, “Why have I come from Geshur?(AG) It would be better for me if I were still there!”’ Now then, I want to see the king’s face, and if I am guilty of anything, let him put me to death.”(AH)
33 So Joab went to the king and told him this. Then the king summoned Absalom, and he came in and bowed down with his face to the ground before the king. And the king kissed(AI) Absalom.

24 イエスが神殿の庭から出ようとしておられると、弟子たちが近寄って来て、「この神殿は、たいそうりっぱですね」と言いました。 2 ところが、イエスは言われました。「今、あなたがたが目を見張っているこれらの建物は、一つの石もほかの石の上に残らないほど、あとかたもなく壊されてしまいます。」
3 そのあと、イエスがオリーブ山の中腹に座っておられると、弟子たちが来てこっそり尋ねました。「そんな恐ろしいことがいつ起こるのですか。あなたがもう一度おいでになる時や、この世の終わりには、どんな前兆があるのでしょう。」
4 そこでイエスは、彼らに説明されました。「だれにもだまされないようにしなさい。 5 そのうち、自分こそキリストだと名乗る者が大ぜい現れて、多くの人を惑わすでしょう。 6 また、あちらこちらで戦争が始まったといううわさが流れるでしょう。だがそれは、わたしがもう一度来る時の前兆ではありません。こういう現象は必ず起こりますが、それでもまだ、終わりが来たのではありません。 7 民族は民族に、国は国に敵対して立ち上がり、至る所でききんと地震が起こります。 8 しかし、これらはみな、やがて起こる恐ろしい出来事のほんの始まりにすぎないのです。
9 その時、あなたがたは苦しめられ、殺されることもあるでしょう。また、わたしの弟子だというだけで、世界中の人から憎まれるでしょう。 10 ですから、その時には多くの者が罪の生活に逆戻りし、互いに裏切り、憎み合います。 11 また多くの偽預言者が現れ、大ぜいの人を惑わします。 12 罪があらゆる所にはびこり、人々の愛は冷えきってしまいます。 13 けれども、最後まで耐え忍ぶ者は救われるのです。
14 そして、御国についてのすばらしい知らせが全世界に宣べ伝えられ、すべての国民がそれを耳にします。それから、ほんとうの終わりが来るのです。
15 ですから、預言者ダニエルが語った、あの恐るべきもの（ダニエル9・27、11・31）が聖所に立つのを見たなら〔読者よ、この意味をよく考えなさい〕、 16 その時は、ユダヤにいる人たちは山に逃げなさい。 17 屋上にいる人たちは、家の中の物を持ち出そうと下に降りてはいけません。 18 畑で仕事をしている人たちは、着物を取りに戻ってはいけません。
19 このような日には、妊娠している女と乳飲み子をかかえている母親はたいへん不幸です。 20 あなたがたの逃げる日が、冬や安息日にならないように祈りなさい。 21 その時には、歴史上、類を見ないような大迫害が起こるからです。
22 もし、このような迫害の期間が短くされないなら、一人として救われないでしょう。だが、神に選ばれた人たちのために、この期間は短くされるのです。
23 その時、『キリストがここにおられるぞ』とか、『あそこだ』『いや、ここだ』などとうわさが乱れ飛んでも、そんなデマを信じてはいけません。 24 それは、偽キリストや偽預言者たちです。彼らは不思議な奇跡を行って、できることなら、神に選ばれた者たちさえ惑わそうとするのです。 25 いいですね。よく警告しておきます。
26 ですから、だれかが、『メシヤがまたおいでになった。荒野におられる』と知らせても、わざわざ見に出かけることはありません。また、『メシヤはこれこれの所に隠れておられる』と言っても、信じてはいけません。 27 なぜなら、メシヤのわたしは、いなずまが東から西へひらめき渡るように戻って来るからです。 28 死体がある所には、はげたかが集まるものです。 29 これらの迫害が続いたすぐあとで、太陽は暗くなり、月は光を失い、星は天から落ち、天体に異変が起こります。
30 その時、わたしが来るという前兆が天に現れるのです。地上のあらゆる国の人々は深い悲しみに包まれ、わたしが力と輝く栄光を帯びて、雲に乗って来るのを見ます。 31 ラッパが高らかに鳴り響く中で、わたしは天使たちを遣わします。天使たちは、天と地の果てから果てまで行き巡り、選ばれた者たちを集めるのです。
32 さあ、いちじくの木から教訓を学びなさい。いちじくの葉が出てくれば、夏は間近です。 33 同じように、このようなことが起こり始めたら、わたしはもう戸口まで来ているのです。 34 それらのことが全部起こってから、この時代は終わりになるのです。
35 天地は消え去りますが、わたしのことばは永遠に残ります。 36 しかし、その日、その時がいつであるかは、だれも知りません。天使ばかりか、神の子さえも知らないのです。ただ父だけがご存じです。
37-38 ちょうど、ノアの時代のように。当時の人々は洪水が襲う直前まで、宴会だ、結婚式だと陽気に楽しんでいました。 39 何もかも押し流されてしまうまで、洪水のことなど信じようとしなかったのです。わたしが来る時も、それと同じです。
40 その時、二人の人が畑で仕事をしていると、一人は天に上げられ、一人はあとに残されます。 41 家事をしている二人の女のうち、一人は天に上げられ、一人はその場に残されます。
42 主はいつ来られるかわからないのだから、いつ来られてもいいように準備をしていなさい。
43 寝ずの番をしていれば、どろぼうに入られることもありません。 44 同じように、日ごろの備えが万全であれば、わたしが何の前ぶれもなくやって来ても、少しも困ることはないはずです。
45-46 主人の賢い忠実な管理人とはだれでしょう。召使たちの食事の世話をし、家の中を管理する仕事をする人です。主人が帰って来た時、その仕事を忠実にやっているところを見られる人は幸いです。 47 主人はそのような忠実な人たちに、全財産を管理させます。
48 しかしもし、あなたがたが悪い召使で、『主人はまだ当分、帰って来ないだろう』と高をくくり、 49 仲間をいじめたり、宴会を開いて酒を飲んだりし始めたらどうでしょう。 50 主は何の前ぶれもなく、思いがけない時に帰って来て、この有様を見、 51 あなたがたを激しくむち打ち、偽善者たちと同じ目に会わせるでしょう。あなたがたは泣いて歯ぎしりするのです。

The Destruction of the Temple and Signs of the End Times(A)
24 Jesus left the temple and was walking away when his disciples came up to him to call his attention to its buildings. 2 “Do you see all these things?” he asked. “Truly I tell you, not one stone here will be left on another;(B) every one will be thrown down.”
3 As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives,(C) the disciples came to him privately. “Tell us,” they said, “when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming(D) and of the end of the age?”(E)
4 Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you.(F) 5 For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many.(G) 6 You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.(H) There will be famines(I) and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of birth pains.
9 “Then you will be handed over to be persecuted(J) and put to death,(K) and you will be hated by all nations because of me.(L) 10 At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, 11 and many false prophets(M) will appear and deceive many people.(N) 12 Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, 13 but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.(O) 14 And this gospel of the kingdom(P) will be preached in the whole world(Q) as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.
15 “So when you see standing in the holy place(R) ‘the abomination that causes desolation,’[a](S) spoken of through the prophet Daniel—let the reader understand— 16 then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 17 Let no one on the housetop(T) go down to take anything out of the house. 18 Let no one in the field go back to get their cloak. 19 How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers!(U) 20 Pray that your flight will not take place in winter or on the Sabbath. 21 For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again.(V)
22 “If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect(W) those days will be shortened. 23 At that time if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Messiah!’ or, ‘There he is!’ do not believe it.(X) 24 For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders(Y) to deceive, if possible, even the elect. 25 See, I have told you ahead of time.
26 “So if anyone tells you, ‘There he is, out in the wilderness,’ do not go out; or, ‘Here he is, in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it. 27 For as lightning(Z) that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming(AA) of the Son of Man.(AB) 28 Wherever there is a carcass, there the vultures will gather.(AC)
29 “Immediately after the distress of those days
“‘the sun will be darkened,
and the moon will not give its light;
the stars will fall from the sky,
and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.’[b](AD)
30 “Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth[c] will mourn(AE) when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven,(AF) with power and great glory.[d] 31 And he will send his angels(AG) with a loud trumpet call,(AH) and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.
32 “Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. 33 Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it[e] is near, right at the door.(AI) 34 Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened.(AJ) 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.(AK)
The Day and Hour Unknown(AL)(AM)
36 “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son,[f] but only the Father.(AN) 37 As it was in the days of Noah,(AO) so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 38 For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage,(AP) up to the day Noah entered the ark; 39 and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.(AQ) 40 Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left.(AR) 41 Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left.(AS)
42 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.(AT) 43 But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming,(AU) he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. 44 So you also must be ready,(AV) because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.
45 “Who then is the faithful and wise servant,(AW) whom the master has put in charge of the servants in his household to give them their food at the proper time? 46 It will be good for that servant whose master finds him doing so when he returns.(AX) 47 Truly I tell you, he will put him in charge of all his possessions.(AY) 48 But suppose that servant is wicked and says to himself, ‘My master is staying away a long time,’ 49 and he then begins to beat his fellow servants and to eat and drink with drunkards.(AZ) 50 The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of. 51 He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.(BA)
