The Coming Day of the Lord
3 (A)Know this first of all, that (B)in the last days (C)mockers will come with their mocking, (D)following after their own lusts, 4 and saying, “(E)Where is the promise of His (F)coming? For ever since the fathers [a](G)fell asleep, all things continue just as they were (H)from the beginning of creation.” 5 For [b]when they maintain this, it escapes their notice that (I)by the word of God the heavens existed long ago and the earth was (J)formed out of water and by water, 6 through which (K)the world at that time was (L)destroyed by being flooded with water. 7 But by His word (M)the present heavens and earth are being reserved for (N)fire, kept for (O)the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly people.

For ever since[a] the fathers fell asleep, all things have continued just as they have been from the beginning of creation.” 5 For when[b] they maintain this, it escapes their notice that the heavens existed long ago and the earth held together out of water and through water by the word of God, 6 by means of which things the world that existed at that time was destroyed by[c] being inundated with water. 7 But by the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly people.
